balance is based in Glasgow & offers a full timetable of Yoga Classes, Yoga Workshops, Yoga for Runners, Yoga Teacher Training & other specialist classes for Absolute Beginners, Antenatal (pregnancy) and Postnatal (mum & baby) as well as One-to-One private sessions and yearly Yoga Retreats. balance was formed by McTimoney Chiropractors Caroline Arnott and Alan MacInnes, and yoga teacher Gerry Kielty. Caroline, Alan and Gerry have known each other through their chosen fields for several years. Through time, it became apparent that not only did they share many of the same patients/students, but also that the philosophy of their disciplines very much complemented each other. Caroline, Alan and Gerry decided to open a centre offering their combined services, but also offering other complementary health treatments/services which support a healthy life(style) philosophy. balance was the first centre of its type to open in the Glasgow area. We provide a fully equipped yoga studio with extensive class timetable, McTimoney Chiropractic and Complementary Health services of the highest standard. Patients / students varying needs can be met by the individual practitioners / teachers, or where required, on a cross-referral basis within the centre. balance's philosophy, therefore, is to create a support structure, providing the individual with information, choice and ultimately empowerment to take ownership of their health and well-being.

Yoga for Peri Menopause Workshop
with Sarah Potter

If you’re aged 35+ it’s likely you’ve started to experience some of the symptoms of peri-menopause. This might include, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, changes in tolerance to exercise, mental fogginess, reduced libido, and weight gain.

One of the reasons these symptoms start is because the hormone progesterone starts to decline. It’s a natural transition to menopause, lasting around 15 years.

Yoga can help you to manage the stressors which exacerbate negative symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause. It’s a non-pharmacological approach which is effective on its own and complements hormone therapy.

In this 2.5hr yoga for peri-menopause workshop you will learn:

* How your menstrual cycle and hormones play in a vital role to your health
* Yoga techniques to help alleviate common symptoms associated with peri-menopause and menopause
* Adaptations to your yoga practice and exercise plan which can help you deal with the transition to menopause
* Simple ayurvedic lifestyle changes that support a smooth transition to menopause

Sarah Potter qualified as a yoga teacher in 2010 (500hr). She draws on hatha, ashtanga, and yin, styles to respond to the needs of each student.
Sarah has been teaching pre natal yoga for several years, and became a post natal yoga specialist in 2023. This year she qualified as a holistic health coach for women.

Our two 2025 Retreats in Turkey and Spain were fully booked! The 2026 retreat schedule is now launched.

Our new venue in Turkey is almost full with one room available. Located in a secluded mountain valley, surrounded by pine forest, the accommodation nestles amid olive and fig groves. It is only a ten minute drive to the sea and the small chic yachting resort of Gocek, with its shops, bars and restaurants. It is an oasis of peace in natural surroundings. At night the valley is dark, revealing all the beauty of the night sky. At full moon it is truly magical to see the forest and valley bathed in moonlight. Huzur Vadisi’s setting brings a deep connection with the natural world that immeasurably enhances the benefits of yoga practice.

We return to Spain, Almeria for our 10th visit. Every year the retreat gets better and better!

The Almeria yoga venue is on the edge of one of Europe’s most remote and beautiful natural parks, the Cabo de Gata, one of the last unspoiled stretches of Spanish coastline. It’s an amazing landscape of perfect half-moon bays, hidden coves, bizarre volcanic rock formations, and spectacular flora and fauna – a wonderful wild coastline, which you will have seen more times than you think as the backdrop in many films including Indiana Jones, Lawrence of Arabia, and Sergio Leone’s famous spaghetti westerns!

The Almeria yoga venue is in a peaceful, isolated location, but within walking distance of the lovely traditional local village, which can be seen across the valley at the foot of the spectacular mountain backdrop.

Welcome Louisa back to balance. Louisa now living in the west end is able to return to her acupuncture practice at balance.

She will be available on Tuesdays.

Louisa is an experienced acupuncturist registered with the British Acupuncture Council. She practices Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, often combined with massage, cupping and moxibustion to alleviate symptoms while identifying and treating the root cause of the condition, promoting lasting health.

Louisa gained her Licentiate in Traditional Chinese Acupuncture from the Northern College of Acupuncture in York in 1996 and has worked in a number of private settings since; successfully treating a myriad of complaints from musculoskeletal injuries to organ disharmony, mental/emotional imbalance to immune sensitivities.

Louisa also gained a certificate in Remedial Massage from The Northern Institute of Massage in Blackpool in 1995. She uses Deep Tissue Massage as a diagnostic skill to enhance a successful acupuncture outcome when treating musculoskeletal injuries and for therapeutic relaxation with or without acupuncture.

She is originally from Poland and studied Economics at University but discovered her love for massage and complementary therapies 17 years ago and decided then to pursue her love of being able to help others through her massage practice.

Welcome our new massage therapist Jack Bergen to our balance team.

Jack is a qualified massage therapist who also holds a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science and an MSc in Sports and Exercise Therapy. He is also currently undertaking a Doctorate in Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University.

He has been working as a massage therapist since qualifying in 2022 and uses the skills and knowledge he has gained in his Masters and Doctorate to deliver treatments tailored to the individual.

Jack offers Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage and Remedial Massage.

Balance would like to introduce you to Elodie Gauthier. Elodie is a senior physiotherapist. Her clinical specialties include neuro-musculoskeletal, pelvic health, orthopaedics and occupational health.

She is also a qualified yoga teacher, her focus is primarily on Yin, meditation, pranayama and anatomy-physiology, offering a multi-faceted treatment with the nature of health and wellbeing as being central. You can expect to see the mix of her creative and scientific backgrounds in her practice and clinics.

Her clinics begin Monday 23rd September 2024, 09:00-13:00 pm.
