Retreats are closer than you think...

When travelling down the road of life, you get to meet different people and ways of life along the way. We've been lucky enough to find interesting ways of life, amazing therapies and gifted practitioners along our way. With the busy, often complicated lives that we lead we know it's not always possible to have a wee break from the norm. We know how meditating for half an hour, going to an hours holistic therapeutic session or spending your weekend on a yoga retreat can put you back up on top of the world. And so, The Wee Retreat aims to bring the therapies, ways of life and practitioners we have found along the way to you... so you experience the serenity and calm from your own wee retreat.

Free introduction to Zen Meditation!

This introduction will include everything you need to get started with practising Zen. It will feature an informal talk, practical demonstrations, an opportunity to meditate and plenty of opportunity for questions and discussions.

We’ll be looking at what meditation is and how it’s practised within the Zen tradition. We’ll have practical posture instruction to help you sit with ease and find rest in a balanced posture that suits you. We’ll also look at embarking upon a daily practice and tips for how you can get started practising at home.

The handing over of the keys (definitely in no way staged for a photo! 🔑)

Over the past 7 years, The Wee Retreat CIC has grown from a wee idea into a warm, welcoming space filled with incredible people, a place where so many of you have come to rest, connect, teach, learn and just be. We’re so proud of the community that’s been built here together.

As we turn 7, we’ve felt the itch… inviting us to pause, reflect and ask: how do we grow our impact, reach more people, and keep this space thriving long term?

After a lot of thought (and many cups of tea), we’re really excited to share our next step…

From 1st April, the studio space will be run as 'The Wee Retreat - Southside' by a lovely local couple, Trudi & Angus.

This means:
✨ The studio will continue as the local wellbeing hub you know and love
✨ Classes, workshops and events will carry on
✨ Info about these events will still be shared on this page and weeretreat.co.uk
✨ You’ll see two new friendly faces around the space

If you'd like to hire the studios or have a question about attending a class or event at the studios, from the 1st April, you can contact Trudi & Angus directly at: southside@theweeretreat.co.uk

But importantly — The Wee Retreat CIC isn’t going anywhere.

We’ll still be right here, focusing more of our time and energy on our:
✨ Free Community Wellbeing Programme
✨ Outreach work
✨ Corporate wellbeing services

For more information on any of these offerings, please contact us at: info@theweeretreat.co.uk

And don’t worry, if you’re ever unsure who to contact, we’ll always point you in the right direction!

This is an exciting new chapter – a pilot we hope could grow into something we replicate across Scotland, expanding our impact alongside local communities.

It brings us back to what we set out to do: make wellbeing more accessible, while keeping the heart of The Wee Retreat alive.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. Truly, The Wee Retreat is what it is because of you.

With deep gratitude,
Vicky & The Wee Retreat team 💛

New community group: a Wee Safe Space 👥

This new free support group offers a supportive space for anyone living with stress, anxiety or long-term physical health challenges. Together, we’ll explore simple, practical ways to care for both mind and body, helping you find steadiness and a greater sense of ease in everyday life.

Through a blend of somatic practices, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), journalling and small daily routine-building, you’ll be guided to reconnect with your body, understand your nervous system and discover tools that can support you when things feel overwhelming. Rooted in trauma-informed care and compassionate understanding, the sessions move at a pace that honours where you are.

Bookings will be open in 4-week blocks to encourage you to build consistent, supportive habits and connect with others who may be walking a similar path. Over time, this offers a chance to deepen self-awareness and strengthen your inner resources, all within a welcoming space.

Month 1: Reclaiming Safety – Understanding Your Nervous System, Trauma Responses and Foundations of the Light System

Learn about the nervous system and how trauma impacts your stress responses. This month, we'll explore the Light System framework, helping you build a foundation of safety and awareness for emotional healing.

This group is generously funded by the Glasgow Wellbeing Fund.

🗓️ Tuesdays 12:30-2pm, starting 21st April

After a beautiful retreat on the Isle of Bute, we now have our sights set a little further from home! Join us for our very first mindfulness residential retreat abroad to a beautiful retreat centre nestled in the Aralar mountains of the Southern Basque Country, Spain.

This is an invitation to step away from the pace of everyday life… to slow down, breathe a little deeper and reconnect with parts of yourself that can become lost in the busyness of daily routines. The retreat is open to those completely new to residential retreats as well as those with experience, with some mindfulness meditation experience recommended.

Guided by Vicky and inspired by her own retreat experiences, you’ll have the opportunity to live and practise mindfulness in community – sharing meditation, teaching and quiet reflection, alongside extended periods of silence. There will also be space in the day for rest, reading, gentle walks in the mountains, tea in the garden and optional restorative yoga.

You’ll stay in a lovingly restored 500-year-old Basque home, where hosts Lisa and Koldo offer warm hospitality and nourishing homemade meals using organic produce from their garden and local wild plants.

🗓️ Tuesday 25 - Sunday 30 August 2026
📍 Perunea Retreat Centre, Navarre, Spain

If you feel the call to pause, reconnect and spend a few days immersed in mindful living, we would love you to join us.

Wee Hacks 🛠️
April often brings a gentle sense of renewal. The days grow lighter, buds begin to open and the world slowly stirs back into colour. It can be a lovely time to refresh your routines, spend a little more time outdoors and nurture the small things that help you feel grounded as spring unfolds.

🌤️ Welcome the longer days – Step outside for a few moments of fresh air and natural light whenever you can.

🪴 Refresh your space – Open the windows, clear a small corner or add a fresh plant to your room.

🌱 Start something small – Plant herbs, sow seeds or begin a tiny project that feels nourishing.

I wasn’t broken, I was just rarely here.
Out ahead of myself all the time.
Rarely at ease, restless
Yet, there is another way of relating.
And it isn’t something special — it’s something available.
It’s simply to be here.
To notice ourselves.
And the present, however we find it.
Think of seasons.
Of the gardener standing year on year —
noticing life gather itself in spring,
noticing the shadows lengthen through winter.
Feeling the seasons.
A little wiser, perhaps.
A little more familiar with what comes and goes.
This is mindfulness.
Where we notice our seasons,
we come to understand them — and ourselves —
and from there, we can meet life as it is,
with discernment, and with care.
You don’t need to become someone else.
You just need to arrive where you already are.

A big part of the Mindfulness Teacher training programme involves creating your own 'pitch' about what Mindfulness is.
This gives trainees the chance to explore what Mindfulness is to them, find their authentic voice and develop skills in delivering their pitch to others.
The above is an exert from one of our current trainees, Niall Miller's pitch. I'm delighted to share it for you to read 🙂
It's an honour to guide individuals through this process. If you'd like more information about our next cohort starting in May, pop me an email- vicky@theweeretreat.co.uk 🙏

Personality and the Body: Undoing the patterns holding us back

If you feel stuck in a rut and would like to know why, this is for you!

In this supportive group you'll explore 4 personality types over 8 weeks (which are really survival strategies):

- Leaving pattern: We dissociate and space out under stress.

- Oral Pattern: A deep sense of lack and neediness which we try to fill with negative behaviours.

- Endurer Pattern: Life is a burden to endure, a burden to grumble through.

- Rigid Pattern: We are quite functional, but life feels robotic and dull.

With compassionate guidance, this course offers a chance to understand these patterns and begin softening the ones that may be holding you back, with stretches, movements, emotional expression and breathwork tailored to each type.

🗓️ Fridays, 6:30-7:30pm, starting 3rd April

Wee Wanders Wellbeing Walks 🌈

This month we'll walk together to , noticing colours along the way — from the vibrant shop fronts and cityscape to the subtler hues of the arrival of spring in the gardens. Once there, we’ll take a little time to pause, breathe, and settle into a short guided meditation, giving ourselves space to be present and notice the quiet shifts of the season.

All paths are paved and mostly flat, making the walk accessible for prams and wheelchair users. There is an accessible bathroom at The Wee Retreat and at The Tramway (next to The Hidden Gardens).

📆 Friday 13th March 10am-12pm, meet at The Wee Retreat
