Strong Shoulders = Better Movement (and Fewer Niggles!)

Shoulders were the star of the show in this week’s Pilates class, and for good reason!

We worked on shoulder posture and stabilisation, helping to strengthen the muscles that support this incredibly mobile (and often overworked) area of the body.

Why does it matter?
Good shoulder stability isn’t just for athletes, it helps everyone move better, with less pain and more power.

But if you do play racket sports like tennis, squash or padel, this work is essential. It supports better performance, injury prevention, and smoother movement both on and off the court.

We’re not here for stiff, hunched shoulders, we’re aiming for strong, supported, and mobile!

Want to join in?
I run two Pilates classes each week in the West End of Glasgow:
• Tuesdays at 10:30am
• Sundays at 10:00am

£10 per class – open to everyone, and all levels are welcome.

Spaces are limited, so advance booking is essential.

A £10 no-show or late cancellation fee applies to help keep things fair and those spaces filled.

Book your spot here: [www.faithjohnsosteopathy.com] or use the schedule appointment button on this page.

Let’s get those shoulders stable, your spine supported, and your whole body feeling stronger!

People often assume that the most expensive massage in a great location must be the best… but that’s not always the case.

Luxury spas can charge £150–£250 for a session, but in many cases, the therapist delivering your treatment is earning just £15–£30, plus your tip (if it’s even allowed).

These high-end spas, especially those attached to posh hotels or wellness retreats, often have a rapid staff turnover and rely heavily on newly qualified therapists still finding their feet. And truthfully? Some of these places aren’t great working environments either. I’ve worked in some myself and also heard some wild behind-the-scenes stories from friends in the industry (no names, but wow).

The reality is, these businesses are usually built by marketers - not health professionals.

So while you’re paying top dollar, what you’re really getting is the brand, the plush reception, the fancy robe, and the cucumber water. All very lovely of course, but once you’re on the table with your eyes closed, what really counts is the therapist’s experience, skill, and presence.

Want the best massage?

Find a brilliant local therapist who’s invested in your care.

That might mean choosing someone who works independently or within a values-led practice, someone who’s built real relationships with their clients and delivers consistently excellent results.

The price might be similar, or even a bit less, but when a local therapist sets their rate, it’s a reflection of the value they know they deliver, not the overheads of a spa chain.

You’re paying for real expertise - not fancy premises.

🚨 A Friendly Reminder About Cancellations 🚨

I get it—life happens! Schedules change, kids are off school (hello, half-term chaos! 🙃), and sometimes appointments slip through the cracks.

But… when you cancel within 24 hours or don’t show up, it means I’ve lost that time completely. And as much as I love helping people, this is also my livelihood.

So, a gentle nudge: My cancellation policy means late cancellations and no-shows will be charged in full. If something comes up, just drop me a message—I’m always happy to reschedule with a little notice.

Thanks for understanding and supporting my small business! 💙

🚨 Men: This One’s for You! 🚨

Menopause isn’t just a “women’s issue.” It affects your life too - whether it’s your wife, partner, mother, sister, friend, (or even a colleague) going through it. You might have noticed changes - mood swings, brain fog, disrupted sleep, anxiety, or just not feeling like herself.

The truth is, menopause can be tough, but your support can make a huge difference. 💙

👉 Be informed – Understanding what she’s going through helps you be more patient and supportive.
👉 Listen & communicate – Sometimes, just acknowledging her struggles can be powerful.
👉 Encourage self-care – Simple things like rest, movement, and nutrition can help her feel better.

💡 I run a menopause support group called Shake Off the Change, where I share advice, expert insights, and practical solutions. If you know someone struggling, share it with them!

https://www.facebook.com/share/g/14gHXoR9bo/?mibextid=wwXIfr

📢 And in the coming weeks, I’ll be launching the Serenova Wellness Menopause Supplement (Balance & Boost) - designed to support hormonal balance and overall wellbeing. If you’d like to help a loved one, you can gift them a trial pack or a full month of support when the link goes live.

Let’s start talking about menopause - because supporting the women in your life benefits everyone. Who’s with me? 🙌

Osteopathy: A Proven Approach to Musculoskeletal Health

Osteopathy is often misunderstood as an "alternative therapy," but it is, in fact, a well-established, evidence-based form of manual medicine that focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing musculoskeletal disorders. Unlike alternative therapies, which may lack scientific validation, osteopathy is grounded in a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics. Osteopathic practitioners, known as osteopaths, use a holistic approach to address the root causes of pain and dysfunction, making it an effective treatment for back injuries, neck pain, sports injuries, and other musculoskeletal issues.

Osteopathy: Not Alternative, but Complementary

Osteopathy is not an alternative to conventional medicine; rather, it complements it. Osteopaths undergo rigorous training to degree level, often equivalent to medical doctors, and are registered healthcare professionals in the U.K. They use hands-on techniques such as soft tissue manipulation, joint mobilisation, and stretching to restore balance and function to the body. These methods are supported by scientific research and are increasingly integrated into mainstream healthcare systems.

How Osteopathy Helps with Musculoskeletal Issues

1. Back Injuries: Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek osteopathic care. Osteopaths assess the spine, muscles, and surrounding tissues to identify imbalances or restrictions that may be causing pain. By using gentle manipulation and mobilisation techniques, they can alleviate pressure on nerves, improve spinal alignment, and enhance mobility, providing long-term relief.

2. Neck Pain: Neck pain, often caused by poor posture, stress, or injury, can significantly impact daily life. Osteopaths address the underlying causes by releasing tension in the muscles, improving joint mobility, and promoting better posture. This holistic approach not only reduces pain but also prevents recurrence.

3. Sports Injuries: Athletes frequently experience strains, sprains, and overuse injuries. Osteopathy helps by accelerating healing, reducing inflammation, and restoring optimal function. Osteopaths also provide advice on injury prevention and rehabilitation exercises, ensuring a safe return to activity.

4. Other Musculoskeletal Issues: Osteopathy is effective for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, sciatica, and repetitive strain injuries. By addressing the interconnectedness of the body’s systems, osteopaths can improve circulation, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being.

A Holistic and Patient-Centered Approach

One of the key strengths of osteopathy is its holistic approach. Osteopaths consider the entire body, rather than focusing solely on the site of pain. They take into account factors such as lifestyle, posture, and previous injuries to develop personalised treatment plans. This patient-centered approach ensures that care is tailored to individual needs, promoting faster recovery and better outcomes.

Conclusion
Osteopathy is not an alternative therapy but a scientifically grounded, hands-on approach to healthcare that plays a vital role in managing musculoskeletal conditions. By addressing the root causes of pain and dysfunction, osteopaths help patients regain mobility, reduce pain, and improve their quality of life. Whether you’re dealing with a back injury, neck pain, or a sports-related issue, osteopathy offers a safe, effective, and holistic solution.
