We kicked off on the GCU Health Visiting programme by exploring infant mental health, the practice of infant observation, and best practice guidelines for capturing the voice of the infant. It’s so important to listen to what babies are telling us, and to promote the sensitive, nurturing relationships that help babies thrive 💞

The Scottish Government has released its Health Visiting Action Plan which outlines what is required to support Health Visitors in delivering the Universal Health Visiting Pathway in Scotland - a vital service which promotes the health, wellbeing and development of our wee ones. The Action Plan recognises that the number of HV students must be maintained or increased, and we are delighted to support that at GCU with a new PgD Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting) programme. The full document is available to view on the Scot Gov website.

Happy Father’s Day dads!! We know that dad’s may not always feel like they are part of Health Visitors visits - so much of the focus is on baby and on mum’s recovery, but dad’s wellbeing is so important to us too. Please feel free to join in and ask questions.

We’re here for dads.

We hope you have a wonderful day being celebrated today (and hopefully it will ease some of the gloom from Friday’s 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚽️ result…)

Believe it or not, lots of people don’t know that Health Visitors are NMC registered nurses or midwives who have completed additional post-registration study. Health Visiting students build on their nursing experience and learn about public health, health inequalities, child health and development, infant and parental mental health, and research and leadership skills (to name just a few!), making them highly skilled practitioners.

Happy International Nurses Day to all nurses, but especially Health Visitors 😉
