I think it's good to have a mix of different goals, such as...

Physique - Fat loss, Building muscle, losing inches

Performance - Getting stronger, running faster

Processes - habits & non-negotiables e.g. training 3x per week, doing 10,000 steps, tracking calories daily, drinking 2l of water

Psychological - having more confidence, more energy, less stress, feeling more motivated, better within yourself, proud of what you've achieved.

Why have a mix?

Say for example you only focus on your physique.

If the scale doesn't move it’s easy to feel like you’re not making any progress.

When in reality you might be getting stronger, exercising regularly and starting to feel better within yourself.

There's so many workout plans out there.

And a lot of them are either...

πŸ’© S**t.

πŸ‘Ž Pure unnecessary.

Social media makes this even worse.

People are posting new workout routines every week for the sake of it.

Different exercises.

Different formats.

Adding variety for variety's sake.

Over complicating things.

Using 'advanced' training methods.

Now, maybe these workouts aren't actually 'bad'.

But they're unnecessary.

If you’re just getting started in the gym…

❌ You don’t need a fancy training plan.

βœ… You need something simple.
βœ… You need something easily to understand.
βœ… Something you can actually stick to.
βœ… And something you can gradually progress with over time.

That’s honestly it.

The people who get the best results aren’t the ones doing the most complicated workouts.

They’re the ones doing the basics consistently.

In terms of my PT sessions, I try keeping things as simple as possible.

I try not to use fancy terms or complicated workouts.

And if you’re a complete beginner to the gym.

Or looking to start back after a long lay off.

You just need to get started and be consistent.

You don't need anything fancy or advanced.

Why ALL women over 35+ should lift weights.

As you get older, your estrogen levels will start to drop.

And with this comes a reduction in bone density & muscle mass.

Everyone is different, but bone density usually starts to decline in your 40s-50s.

While muscle mass can start to reduce a wee bit earlier in your mid 30s.

Now the bad news is that no one is invincible.

Time catches up with everyone and you will experience the above to some degree at some point.

But the good news is that there are certain things you can do to help delay & manage the onset of these symptoms!

In fact, you can slow down the rate at which all of this happens with regular exercise, in particularly through lifting weights.

Here are just some of the benefits from lifting weights (bodyweight exercises are also helpful) regularly...

- Stronger bones.
- Stronger muscles.
- Faster metabolism.
- Better balance.
- Fewer aches & pains.
- Less injury prone.
- Quicker recovery rate from injuries.
- Improved mood & energy levels.

Regular strength training is one of the most important things you can do for your body.

And it's never too late to start!

I can't stress how important it is to lift weights, whether you're doing it to manage current symptoms or doing it as a preventative measure to manage symptoms as you age.

WHY & HOW TO USE LIFTING STRAPS πŸ’ͺ.

Using straps allows you to work target muscles better by taking your grip strength out of the equation.

Your forearms aren't as strong as other muscles in your body meaning they can potentially be a limiting factor in terms of how heavy you lift.

But while straps can be a useful tool you don't want to use them each set.

I'll usually warm up without straps then use them for my working sets.

Or only use them on my final set.

I don't want you feeling stressed or self-conscious because you can see yourself in the mirror.

I want you to focus on what you’re doing, rather than how you look doing it.

Which is why I've decided not to put any mirrors up in the gym πŸ‘.
