Over the past two weeks, we’ve proudly supported the Hospice UK ‘This is Hospice Care’ campaign - shining a light on the vital role of hospice care and how leaving a gift in your Will helps secure its future.

Here at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, our Community Team supports around 100 patients at any one time in their own homes or care homes across Glasgow.

Led by Jane Miller, the team provides expert care, comfort, and compassion to people when they need it most - wherever they call home.

We asked Jane what she’d say to someone considering leaving a gift in their Will to the hospice. She shared:

“By leaving a gift in your Will, you’re helping us continue to be there for those who need us most - in their homes, surrounded by the people and things they love. You’re giving families strength, peace, and comfort at a time when it matters most.

From all of us in the Community Team - thank you. Your kindness means the world.”

Leaving a legacy is a simple act with a powerful impact. 💙

Your gift, no matter the size, helps us ensure hospice care is there for future generations.

A Legacy of Love: Katie & Fiona’s Story

When Fiona was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in April 2023, her daughter Katie was five months pregnant.

Fiona, “the life and soul of the party,” stayed positive through her diagnosis. She was determined to meet her sixth grandchild. Just hours after holding baby Tara Fiona for the first time, she was admitted to The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, where she died 10 days later.

Reflecting on her family's experience, Katie shared:
“The care Mum received at the hospice was nothing short of incredible. Every member of staff treated her with such compassion and dignity. We’ll never forget it.”

Fiona’s story is one of strength, love, and selflessness. Her legacy lives on through her family, and the care she received.

Gifts in Wills are vital to the future of hospice care, providing essential income that hospices rely on to deliver essential support for people like Katie and her mum, Fiona.

You can help future families by leaving a gift in your Will. A legacy of love that lasts beyond a lifetime.

Hospice care wouldn’t exist without people like you.

Every year, The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice relies on income received from legacies to provide its services free of charge, to people from the local community with life-limiting illnesses. The care of one in ten of our patients is covered by gifts in Wills.

We’re asking everyone to consider leaving a gift in their Will to the hospice. By doing so, you can help us continue to provide this vital care, ensuring that everyone has the support they need for generations to come.

Together, we can make sure that hospice care lives on for all, for now, forever.

In 1998, Derek’s father was cared for at The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. Since then, Derek has been a dedicated supporter - and recently made the extraordinary decision to leave a gift in his Will.

Derek shared: “I live in Houston Renfrewshire. The reason for leaving a gift in my will is that in 1998 my father passed away whilst being looked after at your Hospice in Glasgow. Since then I have been more than happy to support the hospice anyway I can.

I think it's very important to leave a gift in your will as it takes a lot of hard-working volunteers and a lot of money to keep it running, so a gift in your Will will be a great help.

Most of all I was encouraged by the hard work and dedication of everyone working in the Hospice and the love you feel as soon as you enter the building.

Long may it continue.”

Leaving a gift in your Will is a simple act - but one that creates lasting impact.

Whether large or small, your gift will help ensure patients and families receive the expert care and compassion they need, now and in the future.

Join Derek in leaving a legacy of care.

You might remember the incredible Nisbett family and their Mount Snowdon climb back in August. Three generations reached the summit in memory of Sheila Nisbet, who passed away in our care earlier this year.

Now, young Robyn (7) and Indigo (5) have completed a Duathlon as the final part of their fundraising journey 💪💙

We are truly touched by the Nisbett family's dedication and love. Thank you for helping support other patients and families at the hospice. Your efforts mean the world. 💙

Every step of our journey has been made possible thanks to people like you. 💙

In 1980, Dr. Anne Gilmore along with a small group of passionate individuals came together with a shared vision: to improve care for people living with a terminal illness in Glasgow.

By 1983, The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice became a registered charity and just two years later, our first service, a 24-hour helpline, was supporting over 100 calls a week.

Throughout the 1980s, we grew our services, introduced community nursing, and opened our first Inpatient Ward. In 2018, we moved into our purpose-built hospice in Bellahouston Park, where we continue to provide expert, compassionate care every day.

A gift in your Will can help this care live on for all, for now, forever.
