1. Hydration: The combination of water and electrolytes from apple cider vinegar makes switchel an excellent hydrating drink, especially after exercise or in hot weather.

2. Supports Digestion: Both ginger and apple cider vinegar in switchel aid digestion. Apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid, which can boost stomach acid production and improve digestion, while ginger soothes the digestive tract.

3. Rich in Antioxidants: Switchel contains antioxidants from its ingredients (like ginger and honey) that help reduce inflammation and protect cells from oxidative stress.

4. Balances Blood Sugar: The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar has been shown to help regulate blood sugar levels, making switchel beneficial for managing insulin sensitivity and reducing sugar spikes.

5. Natural Energy Booster: The combination of natural sugars from honey or maple syrup, along with the minerals in apple cider vinegar, provides a quick energy boost without the crash associated with processed sugars.

Sunday Post

I used to love this newspaper growing up lol! I thought I would do a little post on a Sunday for you to prep yourself ready for the week ahead.

For most but not all people Sunday is a day off and is often a time we can slip in a little prepping for the week. Low level underlying stress is a problem for most people in our busy, modern day life. Stress is a major factor in poor gut health. So take some time today to think about the week ahead and see where you can plan to reduce stress during the week.

Here's some ideas....

✅ meal planning - have you planned your menu for the week?
✅ meal prepping - can you prep some meals for the next few days?
✅ kids - do they have fresh PE kit, items that they need to take to school this week? Have they completed their homework or scheduled time to complete it?
✅ clothes - is your wardrobe organised for the week and all your laundry done?
✅ down time - have you scheduled in some relaxing down time for yourself? Think about what makes you unwind - nice walk, reading a book, coffee with a friend, etc.

I would love you to share your tips of how you prep for the week below and help to encourage others to be more prepare and less stressed.

12 Steps To Better Gut Health

Here's a preview of the first 3 steps to my new better gut health programme. The pictures are small ebooks with explanations of the small habits that you can create to improve your digestive process, and they have accountability charts which are issued to you on a weekly basis.

Our gut is now known as our second brain. We have trillions of wee gut bugs that interact with our brain, immune system, and hormonal system. If these bugs are depleted or imbalanced that may lead to poor digestion, poor mental health, skin problems, imbalanced hormones, and possibly increased inflammation in the body 😢!

Looking after our digestive system is key to good health.

Who's this programme for?

This programme is for people who either want to understand how to maintain great gut health...

or have health issues that may be improved by good gut health. This includes...

🔴 Bloating, diarrhoea, constipation, reflux and other digestive issues
🔴 Skin problems like acne, dermatitis, eczema, etc
🔴 Weight issues
🔴 Struggles with mental health
🔴 Poor immune system

I will be trialling the programme over the summer at a incredibly reduced rate.

There are 2 levels

🟢 Self supported programme with a plan sent each week which will help you create a small habit to support your digestive system, improve your digestive process and increase your wee gut bugs. Worth £149, price for the summer £99 (3 monthly payments at £33)

🟢 Above programme with 3 x 30 minute consultation and nutrition questionnaire review. Worth £389, price for the summer £240 (3 monthly payments at £80)

If this is something that would interest you then type ME PLEASE and I will be in touch to set up a free 15 minute chat.

Older people tend to have lower nitric oxide production, associated with poorer vascular and cognitive health. Nitric oxide helps vasodilation, meaning it relaxes the inner muscles of the blood vessels, causing them to widen and increase circulation.

In a study by the University of Exeter, 26 healthy older people (70s to 80s) took part in two ten-day supplementation periods: one with nitrate-rich beetroot juice and another with nitrate-free placebo juice, which they drank twice a day. Participants were healthy, active older people with generally good blood pressure.

Beetroot if rich in inorganic nitrate, and many oral bacteria play a role in turning nitrate to nitric oxide, which helps to regulate blood vessels and neurotransmission (chemical messages in the brain). After the supplementation period, the results showed higher levels of oral bacteria associated with good vascular and cognitive health, and lower levels of bacteria linked to disease and inflammation. Also, systolic blood pressure dropped on average by five points (mmHg) after drinking the beetroot juice.

Do you have beetroot in your diet?

Juiced or whole it has benefits for your heart health and liver. Whole means there will be more fibre for your good gut bacteria. It's so easy to pick up in the supermarket already cooked.

What's you thoughts on beetroot?
❤️❤️❤️ LOVE it or 😩😩😩HATE it?

Gut Loving Breakfast
🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣🥣

✔️Homemade honey, nuts and seed granola

✔️Homemade milk kefir

✔️Home grown strawberries

✔️Hand picked wild bilberries from Aberfoyle

▶️Nuts, seeds and oats in the granola contain good fibre for our gut bacteria to feed on and produce for us essential nutrients like B vitamins and vitamin K2. Nuts and seeds are also a good form of protein and essential fats that will help promote a feeling of fullness and helping you get to lunch time without gorging on sweet snacks.

▶️Kefir is packed with good bacteria that encourage a healthy gut environment as they are passing through. They don't hang around but they help to crowd out bad bacteria.

▶️Berries, especially wild and organically grown ones, are packed with antioxidants that attached to toxins and other nasties in the body and es**rt out of your body to the depth of the sewers where they belong.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Create healthy habits not restrictions!

What's your thoughts?

There's always the guru plugging this diet and that diet. They often remove food groups such as grain, meat, fodmaps. Now there may be a need to remove foods on a temporary basis and of course if you have something like coeliac then you absolutely can't have gluten.

On the whole most people need a balance of all food groups. And most people need to transition gradually to a new eating habits. Take a client of mine who was put on a high protein diet quite rapidly by a person trainer. Six months later she had digestive issues and had put on weight.

I also worked with a group of people who had done a well known slimming programme. They lost weight rapid and some of them ended up with gallbladder issues.

I have worked with loads of people who were recommended low fodmap diet and ended up with long term gut issues.

So if you are making changes to a healthier lifestyle then create habits. Start with changing your breakfast. Work on it until you have nailed it then work on another meal until your whole diet has changed.

What healthy habits can you work on over the next week that will make a difference long term?

Hey lovely people of Glasgow or thereabouts, I have accumulated a couple of SCOBY hotels and I was wondering if anyone would like a free SCOBY. Let me know in the comments if you want one.

What even is a SCOBY?

This is what you need to brew your own kombucha.

It's pretty simply to make your own kombucha.

You need a...
✅ SCOBY,
✅ 100ml of starter tea for every litre of tea,
✅ 2 organic tea bags per litre of tea and
✅ 60g of sugar per litre of tea

1️⃣Make up the tea and sugar solution and cool it.
2️⃣Add to a large kilner style jar, cover with a tea towel and secure with an elastic band.
3️⃣Leave for 7 to 10 days in a warm darkish place to ferment (or until slightly vinegary).
4️⃣Decant into a flip top bottle and add flavouring of your choice. For example lemon and ginger, orange juice, etc.
5️⃣Leave for a couple of days in a warm place until fizzy.
6️⃣Refrigerate and drink.
