Choosing a 200 hour yoga teacher training can feel surprisingly overwhelming.

There are so many courses now, all offering different things, and it can be difficult to know what actually matters when choosing one.

In this video, Judi shares four things to consider:

🟢 Teaching style and approach
🟢 Accreditation and credibility
🟢 The size of the group and level of support
🟢 What’s actually covered in the course

At Merchant City Yoga we believe yoga teacher training should be thoughtful, honest and rooted in real experience.

A good training won’t give you all the answers in 200 hours.
But it should give you strong foundations, meaningful support and the beginning of a lifelong process of learning and practice.

If you’re considering teacher training, take your time. Ask questions. Speak to graduates. Do your homework.

Applications are now open for our next 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training beginning September 2026.

“It’s a space for grounding, playful learning and accessible discussions… where thoughts and experiences take shape and strangers become friends, in the most authentic way.”

That’s how Lisa described Philosophy Club - and it captures something important. It’s not about studying philosophy in a formal way, but about exploring it together, in a way that feels human and real.

Each session stands on its own, so you can come along whenever it suits - whether you’ve explored this side of yoga before or you’re completely new to it.

Most of us breathe all day without ever really paying attention to it.

But in yoga, the breath is more than automatic function. It’s considered a doorway - something that can affect the nervous system, energy, focus and the way we experience ourselves.

Traditional pranayama isn’t simply about taking deeper breaths. It’s a refined practice taught gradually with attention, observation and guidance.

During our 4 day intensive in July, Sri Sudhir Tiwari will guide students through pranayama, therapeutic hatha yoga, meditation, chanting and yoga philosophy, alongside daily Ayurvedic pulse checks and personalised observation.

This is a rare opportunity to study within a traditional lineage with a teacher who has lived and breathed these practices his whole life.

Words from David Keil on what it means to sustain a practice.

A reminder that consistency isn’t about pushing through, but about meeting what’s there - day by day.

“Then you have to remember to be thankful; but in May one simply can’t help being thankful that they are alive, if for nothing else.” LM Montgomery (Author - Anne of Green Gables)

There’s a simple reminder in this quote that I love – don’t lose sight of what you have.

In yoga, this idea has a name: santosha, often translated as contentment. Not complacency, not settling – but the active practice of finding sufficiency in what's already here. It's one of the niyamas set out in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the quiet personal disciplines that sit underneath everything we do on the mat.

After what feels like a long wait spirits are starting to lift alongside the longer, lighter days and the tingly feeling that summer might just be on it’s way. It's a good time to pause and ask, what's good in my practice right now? What’s good in my body, my breath, my world?

See if you can carry that question with you this month – and accept the good.

With a couple of holiday Mondays, there's a slightly different rhythm to May. Classes are running throughout and I'd love to have you join us in the studio.
