Rutherglen HC Dental (formerly MacLeod Dental Practice) is a well established family practice based Please note there is lift access available to the practice.

Rutherglen HC Dental is a family orientated dental practice located on the first floor of rutherglen health centre. The practice provides high quality NHS & private dental treatment in a modern relaxed environment. We participate in the childsmile scheme and welcome children into the practice from birth. Christina Ferry, our principal dentist took over the running of the practice when Therese MacLeod retired in March 2016, having worked alongside Therese for several years. In 2020 she was joined by her husband Stewart Nicolson & our other two fantastic dentists Hayley Moss & Emma Thomson. Alongside the dentists our wonderful dental nurses and receptionists wish to continue to provide high quality dental care in a relaxed envirnoment for which the practice has become reowned. From the moment you walk in the door, to the moment you leave please rest assured we will do our very most to make your experience a pleasant one!

We’re proud to introduce our charity collection box at reception – available all year round! Every 2 months, we’ll be supporting a different charity, and to help your kindness go even further, the practice will match every donation, meaning each charity receives DOUBLE the support 💷➡️💷✨

Our first charity of the year is Macmillan Cancer Support 💚🎗️
Over the years, many of our team have sadly lost family members, friends, and patients to cancer, making this cause especially close to our hearts 💚

To boost our fundraising even more, some of our team will be taking on HYROX challenges 💪🔥🏃‍♀️ to raise additional funds for Macmillan!

This morning alone we have nearly 2 hrs of wasted appointments within the practice. This is due to patients either not showing up or cancelling short notice.
We have a waiting list for new patients looking to join the practice. If you can not make an appointment please try and give us 24 hrs notice, so we can offer the appointment to another patient,

Should you be unfortunate enough to have a dental emergency, the emergency arrangements are below.

We ask that if you require an emergency appointment, you phone the practice before 10am so we can triage you appropriately and accomodate as many patients as possible.

On days where the practice is closed, NHS 24 will provide emergency cover, please call 111. This service is only for patients with an urgent dental emergency such as trauma, severe pain, swelling or haemorrhage.

We’re delighted to welcome our new dentist, Ryan Gavigan to the team at Rutherglen HC Dental. A graduate of Glasgow Dental Hospital, Ryan brings with him up-to-date clinical knowledge and a genuine passion for patient care.

Originally from Kings Park, Ryan is local to the area and is excited to be working within the community he knows so well. With his friendly and relaxed approach, he quickly puts patients at ease and is committed to providing high-quality, comfortable dental care to both new and existing patients.

Outside the practice, Ryan enjoys trail running, hitting the gym, and keeping active. A big sports fan, he’s rarely far from a match or game – and when he’s not watching or playing sports, he’s out walking his three energetic border collies: Jess, Daisy, and Sammy.

Ryan starts in the practice in September and we will be taking names for new patients to register with him from Monday 28th July.

Many of my own patients will know that for the last two years I have been Chair of the Conference of Scottish Local Dental committees. It has been a privilege and a wonderful experience.

The theme of this years conference was “Attract, retain, thrive - building a sustainable work force in NHS dentistry in Scotland”.

Many of our patients and colleagues do not see the work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure we still have an NHS dental service.

Throughout my years as chair, I have been fortunate to attend UK dental conference and meet with colleagues & ministers from across the UK. It’s made me realise how proud we should be & how fortunate we are to have the service we have in Scotland. It’s not perfect but the provision here, in my opinion, is way ahead of the rest of the UK. We all continue to work together for a stronger NHS dental service, one that looks after both patients and dental teams.

It’s now time to hand it over to the very capable Hazel Hannigan from Hannigan dental care. I’m proud and delighted the next Chair is also a Lanarkshire dentist & shares the same vision as I do!

I’m also delighted to share we are in the process of installing a 4th surgery in the practice and hope to have a new dentist start in September. This will mean we will be in the position to register new patients from July. Keep your eyes peeled & we’ll keep you updated.

Thanks once again to all our wonderful patients for their support! We will continue to fight for a strong NHS dental service for you all!

Hannigan Dental Care

As you will be aware there is a red weather warning in place for Friday 24th January.

To ensure the safety of both our staff and patients and following advice from Scottish Government and NHS Lanarkshire we have made the decision to close the practice on Friday 24th January.

Should you require EMERGENCY ADVICE tomorrow friday 24th January please call the practice and your call would be triaged.

After 6pm on Friday emergency advice and appointments will be available by contacting 111. However, this service will be limited so we ask you only contact if you have an emergency such as severe pain, trauma, dental haemorrhage or swelling that cannot wait until we reopen on Monday.

We are now closed for Christmas & will re-open on Wednesday 27th December at 8:45am.

If your unfortunate enough to have a severe dental emergency during this time please contact NHS 24 on 111. Please be aware NHS 24 are only able to see severe dental emergencies which is severe pain, dental trauma, uncontrolled bleeding & severe swelling.

For all other emergencies we’ll be back on 27th December at 845am
