There is so much more within your control than you’ve probably been told.
And when you know your options?
Everything starts to feel calmer, clearer, and far less overwhelming.
Here’s how to prepare for a positive, empowered C-section experience:
✨ Before the day
• Ask questions—understanding why your C-section is recommended builds confidence
• Create a simple birth plan (yes, even for surgery)
• Pack essentials: high-waisted underwear, loose clothing, slip-on shoes, extra pillows
• Think about your environment—music, calm voices, who you want with you
✨ On the day
• You can ask for a calm, gentle atmosphere in theatre
• Request a “gentle” or “slow” C-section (where appropriate), allowing baby to be born more gradually
• Ask for clear communication—knowing what’s happening reduces anxiety massively
• Your birth partner can stay with you and support you throughout
✨ Meeting your baby
• Ask about immediate skin-to-skin (this is often possible!)
• Delayed cord clamping may still be an option
• You can ask for the screen to be lowered if you want to see your baby being born
✨ After your C-section
• Skin-to-skin in recovery helps bonding + feeding
• Take your pain relief regularly—don’t wait until you’re struggling
• Start gentle movement as advised—it really supports healing
• Accept help—this is recovery, not a time to “push through”
✨ At home
• Set up a recovery station (everything within reach)
• Avoid heavy lifting (anything heavier than baby)
• Support your wound and know signs of infection
• Rest as much as you can—healing is your priority
Because this is the part most people miss—
A positive birth isn’t about avoiding a C-section…
It’s about feeling informed, supported, and in control within it.
Save this so you can come back to it 🤍
