The Yoga Dowel is an incredible tool for all postures, including inversions.

This week we have focusing on our standings and seated postures.

Here we highlight some forward bends with twists.

The 6ft pole allows for deeper connection in particular the connection to the shoulder blades ans opening of our chest.

This in turn creates deeper grounding of the buttock bones, resulting in greater spinal extension.

Forward bending and twist becomes stronger and easier with The Dowel.

PROP of the WEEK!

This week we’re using the Yoga Chair (a weighted chair that allows us to move safely on and off!)

All props are just tools for proprioception.
Of course there are times when the chair can act as scaffold to allows us to perform movement when we need a crutch to help us.

The reasons could be injury, aging, hyper mobility to name just a few BUT ultimately we make new neutral connections sending signals from brain to body (and vice versa) to connect……..proprioception 💗

The video shows how the chair can ENHANCE awareness and movement in the body.

CLASSICAL RESTORATIVE yoga uses props and postures carefully to RESTORE your NERVOUS SYSTEM.

You are not just lying about under blankets on cushions/bolsters. Instead you are carefully instructed into positions that will work with your body’s physiology to trigger your vagus nerve to trigger a state of calm, lowering your heart rate and blood pressure…… of course it’s more complex but incredibly powerful.

Veronica (senior YAP instructor) will educate you on how your body responds de and why as she believe knowledge is power.

will do the same using various sound frequencies.

The combination is powerful.

This is what children’s yoga is all about - connection, confidence & community.

Here is one of my recent graduates teaching from the heart, surrounded by children hanging on to every word.

Moments like this remind me why we do what we do. ✨

At Little Greene Yoga, our instructors are trained to the highest standards.

They earn their qualification only after successfully passing both a practical and a written exam - because supporting children’s physical, emotional & mental development is one of the most important responsibilities anyone can take on.

Our courses are intentionally different.

For too long, many trainings taught children the way they teach adults -using postures that are unsafe for growing bodies, or packing 50 trainees into a room where no one ever actually gets to teach, let alone work with children.

The only thing that’s stiff is society’s expectations.

Age isn’t the limit.......Not moving is!

Friday in our ALIGN class, this incredible woman moved into Urdhva Dhanurasana (full wheel) with support from me and another student. Actually the whole class did but this was the only photo we took!

She was elated, surprised and invigorated.

I wasn’t. This class has been redeveloping movement in their spine, safely over the past year.

We use props to develop neural pathways in the brain that show the mind & body how it can and should function.

Movement isn’t just for the young.....

We don’t stop developing the brain at 25 and then sit still for the next 50 years. (longer when we all get on board a longevity plan - of Longevity). The body keeps talking to the brain through movement and the spine is the main messenger.

A healthy spine doesn’t just hold us upright (remember: the skull is the heaviest part of the body), it transfers information through the spinal cord and influences how we breathe, how we feel, and how our nervous system responds to stress.

Here’s something most people never think about......

The upper thoracic spine, even though it’s normally rounded (kyphotic), should subtly move inward on each inhalation. You can see it happening in her upper back in the photo.
But if the upper spine becomes stiff and immovable?

❌ Breathing becomes restricted.
❌ Restricted breath affects Heart Rate Variability.
❌ Lower HRV affects the nervous system.

And suddenly it’s a catch-22:
We get stuck in our body → which makes us stuck in our mind → which feeds
feelings of being trapped or low.

Movement breaks that cycle.
At any age.
At every age.

Block starts Wednesday 22nd October.

Using the Little Greene Yoga method, our classes go far beyond movement - we help children understand how their bodies and minds work together.

✨ In this 8-week block, children will learn:

🧠 How physical movement and posture affect how we feel — from calm to confident!

⚡ How to self-regulate: energising when they feel tired, and calming when they feel overstimulated.
