🚨 PUBLIC HEALTH ALERT🚨

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a briefing note following 48 confirmed cases of botulism linked to cosmetic treatments across the UK.

All cases have been associated with:
• Unlicensed toxins from Korea
• Unregulated non medical providers
• Non-HIS or non-CQC registered premises

UKHSA is working closely with the Police, MHRA, OPSS, and local authorities to investigate and prevent further harm.

⚠️ Clinical symptoms include:
• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Difficulty swallowing or speaking
• Generalised muscle weakness or fatigue

Botulism can be life-threatening, with some patients requiring intubation and ventilation. Prompt medical treatment is essential.

If you suspect a case of botulism following a cosmetic procedure, contact UKHSA immediately on 0208 200 4400 and your local authority environmental health department.
