In an incredible new blog, Harry, a High School Junior, describes OCD as a faulty security system: “This is just the way the security system was installed. The smoke alarm is too close to the stove, the motion sensor is too close to the road, and the batteries are always running low. That’s how people with OCD are. They can’t help it, but they can have power over it.”

Being in a relationship where one partner has OCD can be hard for everyone ❤️‍🩹

But it doesn’t mean the relationship is doomed to fail. Recovery is possible 🫶🏼

Here are some signs of ROCD 🥰

I’d also highly recommend a recent podcast episode from episode 416 - Thriving with relationship OCD. It’s so refreshing, honest and gives a great insight into both sides.

“It’s so nice to meet other people who really understand what I’m experiencing, my family are great but it’s not the same - they don’t really get it. Hearing stories and meeting others at different stages of recovery gives me hope” ❤️‍🩹

It can feel incredibly frustrating 🤯 to work so hard on OCD recovery only for doubt to creep in around your new found peace.

The back door spike is OCDs new way of keeping you stuck in the cycle of obsession and compulsion.

Coming tricks OCD play:
💡 why am I not anxious - maybe I don’t even have ocd and I made it all up
💡 what if I secretly like the thoughts
💡 what does this say about me if I’m suddenly okay with these images
💡 what if I lose control now that I’m not noticing them as often.

Engaging in these behaviours doesn’t necessarily mean you have OCD. However, if you DO have OCD and these behaviours are your way of avoiding intrusive thoughts or uncomfortable feelings, they might actually be keeping the cycle going.

Awareness is a powerful first step towards breaking free 💡 ⭐

Did you know that persistent unwanted intrusive thoughts like these can also be part of OCD?

Some of them fall under a wider umbrella of harm / pOCD / rOCD but it’s important to have awareness of all the sneaky ways that it can present.

Can you relate ?
