Applecross Nursing Home Applecross is situated in the picturesque, semi-rural district of the Hurlet.

Power Supply Update

Over the past 24 hours there has been an issue with the external power supply coming into the home from the substation. This is not a fault within the home itself.

Scottish Power are aware of the problem, which has been traced to an underground cable, and their engineers are working to fully resolve the matter.

In the meantime, generators have been installed at the home to provide a continuous power supply.

We want to reassure everyone that the home is operating as normal. We have full power, all systems are running, and our telephones are working as usual.

We will continue to keep you updated as we receive further information from Scottish Power.

⛵️ Final Barge Trip ⛵️

What a fantastic day out on the water with our lovely ladies and Seagull Trust Cruises Kirkintilloch Even though the weather wasn’t on our side 🌧️, nothing could dampen the laughter and good spirits onboard! 😄💬

They enjoyed a delicious chippy lunch 🍟🐟 while cruising along, keeping their eyes peeled for wildlife 🦆🦢🦋 – and there were plenty of little surprises along the way!

It’s always such a joy to see everyone relaxing, chatting, and making special memories together 💖 Moments like these remind us just how important friendship, fresh air, and a bit of adventure are 🚤💨

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this final trip of the season – we can’t wait to set sail again next year! 🌞🌷 Until then… here’s to many more laughs, shared stories, and happy times ahead! 🥰

Last week was a very special one for two of our gents 💙

💍 Norrie had a wonderful day out as he attended his son’s wedding, a proud and joyful moment for him and his family! 🥂💒

🎨 Meanwhile, Jim enjoyed a trip to the beautiful Burrell Collection where he met up with his brother. They had a lovely catch up while making the most of the sunshine ☀️

It’s always lovely to see our residents out and about, making memories and sharing special moments ❤️

Dianne enjoyed a trip out to Silverburn Shopping Centre for some much needed retail therapy. She loved browsing the shops and treating herself to a little shopping spree, there’s nothing like a change of scenery and a good wander around the stores to brighten the day! 💃🛒💖

Of course, no shopping trip is complete without a tasty lunch 🍴😋 Dianne had been looking forward to her meal at Tony Macaroni’s from the moment she got up! 🍕 She tucked in and enjoyed every bite, with a big smile on her face the whole time.

🍌 Banana Lovers Day 🍌

We went absolutely bananas celebrating Banana Lovers Day with our lovely residents, and what a treat it was! 😋

We kicked things off with the ultimate indulgence – delicious banana splits loaded with ice cream, cream, sauces and of course plenty of fresh bananas. They went down a real hit – not a spoonful left in sight! 🍨🍫🍌

Afterwards, we kept the fun going with a banana-themed quiz 📝🍌 testing our knowledge on everything from monkey favourites to banana facts.

And to finish on a high, we had our very own banana javelin competition 🎯🍌 The room was full of giggles and smiles, proving that sometimes the silliest games bring the most joy. 💛

🔎 The Open Museum 🔍

We had a very special visit from The Open Museum who brought along a fascinating box of mystery objects for us to explore!

From everyday tools to curious gadgets, some items dated all the way back to the 1700s 🤯. Residents had great fun guessing what they were used for – with some brilliant (and some hilariously wrong! 😅) answers.

It was such an educational and enjoyable afternoon full of learning, laughter, and reminiscing. Thank you to the Open Museum for bringing history to life in such a fun way! 💡📚

This past week, with the sun shining so beautifully, some of our residents took the opportunity to enjoy their meals outdoors in the fresh air. 🥗🍓☕

There’s something truly special about dining alfresco — the gentle breeze, the warmth of the sunshine, and the joy of sharing food in nature’s embrace. 🌿🌼 Our residents loved soaking up the summer rays while chatting, laughing, and making the most of the glorious weather. 💛

Moments like these remind us how important it is to pause, appreciate the simple pleasures, and celebrate the little things that brighten our days. 🌸👒☀️

We celebrated the art of photography in the most creative (and fun!) ways:
🔍 We zoomed in close with macro shots, guessing everyday objects from their magnified details – some were trickier than they looked!
⚫⚪ We explored black & white photography, playing with light and shadows to create striking images, and even experimented with editing tools to see how technology can transform a simple shot.
🤪 Our panorama experiments gave us plenty of laughs with stretched and unexpected results that turned out hilarious!
🎉 And of course, we couldn’t resist striking a pose (or two!) at our photo shoot walls, making memories as much as we captured them.

Photography isn’t just about clicking a picture; it’s about perspective, creativity, and capturing moments in unique ways. Today reminded us that every photo tells a story, sometimes serious, sometimes silly, but always memorable. 💡📷

🏆Domino Tournament🏆

We took the games outside for our monthly competition and the atmosphere was brilliant, from the buzz of finding out who your opponent would be, to the cheers as each match unfolded right up to the nail-biting final!

A huge congratulations to Stuart, who battled his way through and was crowned our Champion of the Month, taking home the trophy 🏆👏

Well done to everyone who took part, it was fantastic to see so much fun, friendly competition, and plenty of laughter all around. Can’t wait to see who will take the crown next time!

🌟 Applecross Nursing Home Family Fun Day – What a Day! 🌟

Wow… I am absolutely speechless at the incredible turnout we had yesterday! The sunshine was on our side, the atmosphere was buzzing, and most importantly—it was a day full of smiles, laughter, and togetherness. 💛

A huge heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to everyone who joined us, brought along your families, and helped make it such a special occasion. This day truly showed what community is all about—coming together for our lovely residents, their families, and friends.

✨ Special shout-outs:
• Our amazing Activities Team – your hard work and organisation over the last 4 months shone through in every detail.
• The Mason family – your generosity in sourcing and funding the ice cream was a massive hit (and yes, it definitely went down a treat 🍦).
• Our brilliant chefs & kitchen team – the food and cakes were out of this world!
• Juli and her tombola stand – a fantastic success!
• Every single staff member, family volunteer, and supporter who gave up time to run stalls, donate, and help behind the scenes – you made the day possible.
• Drew for driving the mini bus back and forth, making sure everyone could get here safely.
• The Fire Service for bringing their fire engine, which the kids (and big kids too!) loved exploring 🚒.
• Our fabulous DJ for keeping the music and energy flowing all day long. 🎶

Yesterday, as I walked around chatting to so many of you, I couldn’t help but think: this is what it’s all about. Building memories for our residents, families, and the wider community.
