⭐️Now available to book - C-Section Scar Massage⭐️

I see lots of clients who have given birth via planned or emergency C-Sections. Following their surgery, clients can often be disconnected to this area and aren’t sure where to start when it comes to engaging and caring for their scars. However, a bit of gentle work, love and attention to this area can be hugely beneficial during the postnatal year and beyond.

Massage to a C-Section scar can help promote healthy tissue formation and reduce ongoing scar symptoms such as pain, numbness, itching and reduced mobility.

I trained in C-Section massage via the RESTORE method, a holistic approach that treats the scar but also considers the wider disruption within the body after a surgery. For example, you may experience low back or hip pain or changes to movement or gait. Scar massage techniques, plus working across the abdomen, low back and hips can reduce restriction, tension and encourage balance in the body.

Engaging with this area can also be reassuring and help towards emotional wellbeing, acceptance and healing.

Beginning with an initial chat and short assessment, a typical session will see up to 20 minutes of direct work to your scar (depending on your stage of healing) with the rest of the treatment time spent working on your abdominal area, back, hips and wherever you may be feeling tension (often back & shoulders from holding & feeding).

When can I come for a C-Section massage?

Following your postnatal check-up and once your scar is completely healed and there are no scabs – usually 8-12 weeks (each individual will be different).

Ideally start scar therapy in the first 16 weeks postnatally when remodelling activity in the scar is high. However, treatments can be beneficial at any point postnatally, even to mature scars more than 18 months old.

If there have been any serious complications during labour or pre/postnatally, I may need to get in touch with your medical team before commencing treatment.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for more information or with any questions. Really excited to be doing more of this work!
