It's Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2025!

What are you doing to mark this week?

We've already had an event on Saturday and are offering some more training/workshops later this week to help raise awareness of eating disorders and assist more clinicians to become more knowledgable and skillful when working with eating disorders and disordered eating.

We are also offering some support groups (now fully booked) and free therapy consultations at our offices in Glasgow city centre. We will continue to post about eating disorders this week and will be having lots of conversations with other individuals and companies to raise awareness.

Let's bust some stereotypes and stamp out the stigma surrounding eating disorders this

Best wishes,

Happy New Year!

The festive season...it can be tricky to navigate at times, can't it?

The upcoming festive holiday season can be a tricky time for many people. There might be financial concerns; the pressure to people-please or meet other people's expectations or demands; the strain of having to attend social occasions that make you feel uncomfortable; the stress on relationships and work; as well as the pressure to feel 'happy' and 'jolly' because it's the holiday season (even when we might actually feel sad, anxious, angry or overwhelmed inside).

Sound familiar?

Well, if it does, the poster below notes some strategies that might help you cope a little more through the festive season. And, of course, if you feel you need a little more support in the run up to the holiday season, we do still have some appointments available before we close for our holiday too. So, feel free to drop us an email or message if you need some extra support and we'll let you know what appointments are available.

We have a wonderful team of highly trained, professional, yet warm, friendly and supportive therapists and dietitians who are here to listen and support you, at your pace. Online and in-person appointments available.

Get in touch to find out more and arrange an appointment.

Best wishes,

Glasgow Anxiety and Depression Counselling Service (GADS)

Marleen Pauls is a PhD candidate at King’s College London. She is researching lived menopause experiences and is looking for participants to share their stories and experiences with menopause. Existing research underrepresents the complexity and diversity of menopause experience, for example with regards to ethnicity. She is keen to hear your stories and find out about your unique lived experience, so they can start to change that.
If you are interested, you can find out more at https://www.kcl.ac.uk/people/marleen-pauls or contact them directly at marleen.pauls@kcl.ac.uk or 07716256039.

NEXT CAFE

Our next Menopause Cafe Glasgow city Centre will take place on Thursday 5th December, 5.30-6.50pm. We hope to get the booking link up this week (we're very busy at our day-time jobs this week!)

This will be the last Cafe of 2024. We're unsure when the next one will be as they tend to be on the 1st Thursday of each month (and 2nd January is a public holiday so it won't be on that day).

Look out for the booking link fir the next Cafe on 5th December this week. Due to the large number of no-shows over the last 2 Cafes, pleas only book if you can make it, as it's potentially taking a space from someone else. I do pay for the Cafe our of my own pocket and we do offer our time voluntarily so we do ask you keep your booking up to date to help reduce costs and allows others to attend if they are on the waiting list. Thanks.

Alisha Mehta is a Trainee Clinical Psychologist and doctoral researcher at UCL, and is currently conducting research on women’s experiences of menopause in the workplace. Specifically, they are aiming to compare how supported/stigmatised women of different ethnic groups perceive menopause to be in the workplace, as preliminary findings suggest that non-White groups tend to avoid reporting symptoms or status due to increased shame and stigma.

The research requires participants to fill in a 5-minute survey. More details are attached in the research poster.
The survey has been closed to White participants, but they are continuing to recruit for South Asian, East Asian and Black groups. They hope to have a sample that includes the widest possible range of varying experiences, so that their research can inform changes that are acceptable and effective for all.
