Today, we take a moment to celebrate two truly remarkable women who have given so much to Oakbridge over the years, Catherine and Aileen.

Through their unwavering dedication, they have brought comfort, compassion, and a sense of belonging to our residents, their families, and our team. From advocacy and pastoral care to genuine friendship, their presence has been a constant source of support and reassurance.

Catherine faithfully leads our weekly church service, creating a space of reflection and connection, while Aileen’s beautiful piano playing brings warmth and joy to all who listen. Together, they form a truly special duo who always put our residents first.

More than their roles, they have become trusted friends, offering solace in difficult moments and sharing in the everyday joys of life at Oakbridge.

Catherine and Aileen, thank you for your years of kindness, commitment, and care. You are deeply appreciated, and your impact is felt by us all. 💙

🌻 The Oakminster Healthcare Sunflower Challenge is Back! 🌻

Something wonderful is growing across our Oakminster Care Communities… and this year we are inviting our wider community to join the fun!

For the past three years, the incredible green-fingered team at Florence House Care Community have proudly held the title for growing the tallest sunflower in bloom 🌻🏆

But the question is…

Can anyone beat them this year?

Across our Oakminster Care Communities — Oakview Manor, Oakbridge, Florence House, Chester Park and Cumbrae House — residents and team members will once again be planting sunflower seeds and nurturing them over the coming months to see which home can grow the tallest sunflower.

🌱 And this year we are opening the competition to our community!

We would love to invite local children's groups to take part, including:

• Nurseries
• Youth groups
• Scouts & Guides
• After-school clubs
• Youth sports teams
• Community groups

Each child can grow their own sunflower and track its progress as it grows.

🌻 Community Prize🏆

The tallest sunflower grown by a participating children's group will win:

🏆 £100 Smyths Toy Store Voucher for the winning youth group.

🌻 How to Take Part;

1️⃣ Register your group by emailing

📧 hr@oakminsterhealthcare.co.uk

You will receive our Oakminster Sunflower Participation Pack including:
• Sunflower growth tracker
• Planting guidance
• Competition posters

2️⃣ Plant your sunflower seeds and watch them grow! (Best time to plant your seed is the end of March beginning of April)

3️⃣ Submit your sunflower by either:

🌻 Bringing your sunflower to your nearest Oakminster Care Community for the final measurement on or before Tuesday 25th August 2026 (Our residents would absolutely love to meet the children and see their incredible sunflowers)

OR

📸 Emailing your growth photos, measurement chart and final height to
📧 hr@oakminsterhealthcare.co.uk

🌻 One more thing…

Each group can submit as many sunflowers as they like, one per child!
We cannot wait to see our care communities and local children growing something beautiful together.

Let the growing begin… 🌱 Florence House…your crown may be under threat this year! 👀🌻

🌍 Wishing Dr Shudwin Chireka a Fond Farewell 💛

At Oakminster Healthcare, it is always a privilege to be part of someone’s life journey, and today we take a moment to celebrate a truly special one.

Dr Shudwin Chireka has been a much-valued member of our Oakbridge Care Community since 2018. A highly respected medical doctor, Dr Chireka dedicated his career within the UK, and latterly in Scotland, to caring for the most vulnerable, while also nurturing and developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence of junior colleagues around him. His compassion, professionalism, and commitment to others have left a lasting impression on all who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

As Dr Chireka begins his journey home to his beloved Zimbabwe supported by his family as he travels from Glasgow to London, and onward to Zimbabwe, we reflect on the significance of this moment. To return home, surrounded by those who matter most, is something truly special.

We send him off with our heartfelt thanks, deep respect, and very best wishes. It has been an honour to support you, Dr Chireka, you will always remain part of the Oakminster family.

Wishing you comfort, joy, and happiness in this next chapter 💛

💖 🌸💐Celebrating Mothers & Mother Figures 💐🌸💖

Today across the UK we pause to celebrate the women who nurture, guide, protect and inspire us.

A mother is not defined only by biology.
A mother is someone who listens, comforts, teaches and stands beside us through life’s moments, big and small.

She might be the woman who raised us,
the grandmother whose wisdom shaped us,
the aunt who always believed in us,
the neighbour who offered kindness when it was needed most, or the caregiver who brings warmth and reassurance each day.

Motherhood lives in compassion, patience and unconditional love.

To every mother, grandmother, matriarch and mother figure within our Oakminster care communities and beyond, today we celebrate you.

Thank you for the care you give, the strength you show and the love you share with those around you. Your presence enriches our lives and our communities every day.

🌷 🌹🌺🏵️Sending love and appreciation to all mothers and mother figures today.🏵️🌺 🌸💐

Happy Mother’s Day from everyone at Oakminster Healthcare.

🌟Celebrating Maxine Burns. Thank You for 10 Wonderful Years 🌟

Yesterday we had the pleasure of celebrating Maxine Burns, Care Assistant at Oakbridge Care Community, as she begins a well-deserved retirement after over 10 years of wonderfully kind and dedicated care within our community.

Maxine has been a familiar and reassuring presence to so many of our residents, relatives and team members. Her warmth, humour and compassion have touched countless lives, and her commitment to caring for others has been felt every day she walked through our doors.

Maxine has spent a lifetime serving the Scottish public, whether through her work in social care, pulling pints behind the bar, or cashing up the till in the local shop. Each role carried the same spirit of kindness and community that she brought so naturally to Oakbridge.

As she begins this next chapter, Maxine tells us her plan is to slow down a little, but not too much, and see what opportunities life brings her way. We have no doubt that wherever she goes next, she will continue to brighten the lives of those around her.

Maxine, thank you for the care, dedication and kindness you have shared over the years. You will always be part of the Oakbridge family.

💐 We wish you a long, happy and well-earned retirement.💖

🥔 Souper Troopers strikes again @ Cumbrae House 🥣

The Souper Troopers session continues to be one of the most popular activities within Cumbrae House with residents practically queueing out the door to peel, chop and sautée the morning away!

Today’s dish was a much-loved Scottish classic: stovies. As always with traditional recipes, there were plenty of friendly debates about the “right way” to make it, onions first or potatoes first, corned beef or leftover roast, stock or gravy? Whatever the method, this batch was certainly a hit and there wasn’t much left in the pot after lunchtime!

Cooking activities like this are about far more than preparing a delicious meal. They bring back fond memories, encourage conversation and teamwork, and support residents to stay active and involved in everyday life.

🍲 A traditional stovies recipe (one of many!)

* 1 onion, finely sliced
* 2–3 medium potatoes, sliced or roughly chopped
* 1 tin corned beef (or leftover beef)
* 300ml beef stock
* Salt and pepper to taste

1. Gently sauté the onion in a large pan until soft.
2. Add the potatoes and stock, cover and simmer until the potatoes are tender.
3. Stir through the corned beef and cook until heated through, letting everything soften and break down slightly.
4. Season well and serve with oatcakes or crusty bread.

Now for the important question… how do you make your stovies?👀

Corned beef or leftover roast or sausages link or square. Thick and hearty or a bit more brothy? Let us know your family recipe in the comments!

Health and Social Care Standards:
• 1.25 – I can take part in a wide range of activities
• 1.27 – I am supported to maintain and develop my interests and skills
• 2.13 – I am encouraged to eat and drink well

Today we had the privilege of sharing some of the many nominations received from those living, working, and visiting our Oakminster communities. Each message told a story of compassion, dedication, and the quiet acts of kindness that make such a meaningful difference every single day.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the women who were nominated and recognised today. Your commitment, warmth, and professionalism inspire not only those in our care, but also the colleagues who work alongside you.

At the same time, we know that these nominations represent just a small glimpse of the remarkable women across our Oakminster teams. To the many others whose care, support, leadership, and friendship help our communities thrive, we see you, we value you, and we thank you.

Your compassion is at the heart of everything we do. Today, and every day, we celebrate the wonderful women who bring such dedication, empathy, and strength to the lives of those living within our communities.

Thank you for the extraordinary gift you bring — the gift of truly caring.

This International Women’s Day, we are proud to celebrate the inspiring women across Oakminster Healthcare who make a difference in the lives of our residents every day.

Today we recognise Paige Cairns, a dedicated carer at Oakbridge who has been part of the team for nearly two years. Inspired by watching her mum work in care, Paige chose to follow the same path and has already made a meaningful impact through her compassion, kindness, and enthusiasm.

Paige values the relationships she builds with residents, often sharing how much she learns from their experiences and the wealth of knowledge they bring. Her genuine interest in people and her warm approach make her a much-loved member of the team.

Colleagues describe Paige as kind, enthusiastic, hardworking, and a true role model for others. Residents also speak highly of her with one resident proudly rating her “10/10” and another describing her as “so kind and funny.”

Now preparing to begin her journey into nursing, Paige hopes to continue helping people and making their lives easier and happier. With the support of her family, colleagues, and residents, she has an incredibly bright future ahead.

We are very proud to celebrate Paige and the compassion she brings to Oakbridge this International Women’s Day.
