Then and Now event last week… what can we say?
What a way to celebrate 10 years of Thriving Survivors.

The stories shared took us right back to where it all began and brought us forward to where we are now. You would have struggled to find a dry eye in the room.

It truly showcased the impact of what this wee charity has done. Small in size, but mighty in impact.

A huge thank you to our incredible speakers who brought the journey to life.

- David Smith, who chaired the day and closed the event, sharing both reflection and perspective.
- Brian McMillan, our first financial supporter, who believed in the vision from the very beginning.
- Rachel Crawley, who shared her journey from engaging with the service to becoming part of it.
- Heather Hastie, a former team member who played a key role in shaping the organisation.
- Donna Irvine, one of our original volunteers, who gave her time and heart in the early days.
- Ashley, who introduced the Ten Questions framework and set the direction for what comes next.

1 done.
9 more events to go.

Let’s keep the momentum going.

Many survivors live with the effects of trauma long after the event itself has passed.
Trauma can affect the nervous system, memory, sleep, concentration, confidence, relationships and physical health. It can shape how safe a person feels in their own body and in the world around them.

That is why survivor support is not a luxury. It is essential.

Compassionate, trauma-informed support helps people feel seen, believed and supported without pressure or blame. It creates space for healing that is led by the survivor, not forced on them.

Every survivor deserves access to support that understands the lasting impact of trauma and respects their pace, choices and voice.

At Thriving Survivors, we are committed to providing support that puts survivors first.

Have you chosen your Charity of the Year yet?

If your business is looking to support a charity that is making a real difference, we would love you to consider Thriving Survivors.

Choosing a Charity of the Year is about more than fundraising. It is about aligning with a cause that matters, raising awareness, supporting important work and showing your team and community what you stand for.

At Thriving Survivors, we support survivors through compassionate, trauma-informed services and safe spaces that help people feel heard, understood and less alone. Every partnership helps us continue that work, reach more people and build greater awareness around issues that are too often left in silence.

Working together as your Charity of the Year could include fundraising, awareness campaigns, team events, talks, collaboration opportunities and meaningful ways for your staff to get involved.

If your organisation is thinking about its next charity partnership, we would be honoured to be part of that conversation.

To find out more about working with Thriving Survivors as your Charity of the Year, please get in touch.

Healing is not always visible.

It does not always look like big breakthroughs or dramatic turning points. Sometimes it looks like cancelled plans because your body is tired. Sometimes it looks like finally replying to a message. Sometimes it looks like setting one boundary you would never have set before.

These things count.

Survivors often put pressure on themselves to be doing better, coping better or moving faster. But healing is rarely neat, and it is never a competition.

This month, let this be your reminder:
You are allowed to go at your own pace.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to ask for help.
You are allowed to be proud of small steps.

Small steps are still steps.

If you need support, Thriving Survivors is here to walk beside you.

Rihanna was at the height of her career when she experienced severe domestic violence at the hands of a partner.

The incident became public in 2009, forcing her trauma into the spotlight without her consent. She later spoke about the fear, confusion, and emotional conflict that often follow domestic abuse, even when resources and support appear to be available.

Rihanna’s experience disrupted the myth that wealth, fame, or independence prevent abuse. She has since used her platform to speak about accountability, healing, and the complexity of abusive relationships.

Her story remains a powerful reminder that domestic violence is about control, not circumstance, and that no one is immune.

We’re pleased to share a free online forum taking place on Tuesday 24th March at 2pm, focused on the Victims’ Code Consultation.

This is an important opportunity for victims of crime, professionals, and those working across the restorative sector to have their voices heard and help shape the future of victims’ rights.

The current Victims’ Code includes rights around being given information about Restorative Justice and being referred to support services. Yet many victims still say they were never told about Restorative Justice at all.

This forum, led by Why me? on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, will gather views from across the sector to help inform a collective response to the consultation.

If this matters to you, your organisation, or the people you support, please do consider attending and sharing with your networks.
