Visiting a dentist regularly is an essential part of maintaining good oral health, but we are aware that many people may feel nervous about it.

As part of our Lifelong Smiles programme, we have created a series of videos, to help ease anxiety and show patients, families and carers what to expect at their appointment.

Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital are coming together to host a special 5k fundraising run in memory of their friend and colleague, Anton Buter.

Anton, a respected Upper GI surgeon, passed away two years ago after a diagnosis of bowel cancer. A devoted husband and dad of two, he is remembered as a talented clinician, a passionate advocate for palliative care, and a deeply valued member of the RAH team.

Led by his close friend and colleague Patrick MacGoey, the run will take place on 31 May at ON-X in Linwood and is open to everyone — staff, patients, families and members of the public of all abilities. 🏃‍♂️

So far, more than £12,000 has already been raised to support improvements to Ward 28, the hospital’s dedicated Surgical Palliative Care Unit. The aim is to create a more comfortable, private and dignified environment for patients and their loved ones at the most difficult time in their lives.

A groundbreaking study led by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and the University of Glasgow has reached a major milestone, with over 2,000 patients now taking part in the PHOENIX trial.

The study is exploring how a simple genetic test can help match patients to the safest and most effective medicines, reducing side effects and improving outcomes.

One of those patients, 88-year-old Matthew from Glasgow, took part after being admitted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following a stroke.

As a result of the test, Matthew’s medication was changed to better suit him, giving him greater confidence in his treatment and recovery.

This innovative work is helping move away from a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to prescribing, towards more personalised, safer care for patients across the NHS.

Thank you to every patient who has taken part so far - your support is helping shape the future of healthcare.

Glasgow Dental Hospital was already a beacon of care and innovation, towering over Glasgow City Centre, but now its place at the heart of the city has been strengthened by the installation of a striking new piece of artwork by renowned artist Nathan Coley.

The artwork was officially launched this week, and Lisa Dorrian, General Manager for Oral Health with NHSGGC, said: “This artwork is a powerful, modern reflection of the role the hospital continues to play in Glasgow, and of the communities we serve.”

A Renfrewshire man has become one of the first patients to benefit from robotic-assisted surgery at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH), as NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde expands access to this advanced treatment closer to home.

William Gillespie, 83, from Elderslie, had a bowel tumour successfully removed using robotic surgery at the RAH - meaning less invasive treatment, a quicker recovery and a shorter hospital stay.

The introduction of this technology at the Paisley hospital marks a major step forward for local services, bringing high-quality care closer to patients across Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire.

It also builds on wider investment across NHSGGC, which has now delivered more than 5,000 robotic-assisted procedures, with these also taking place at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Read William’s story and find out how this technology is improving patient care: https://www.nhsggc.scot/renfrewshire-patient-among-first-to-benefit-from-robotic-surgery-at-rah/
