I've honestly never felt so excited for January. I've been a bit floored by a virus as the year has begun, but taking that as an invitation to start slow but stay focused.

At Hot Yoga Glasgow, I'm sure you're agree we never have January blues. It’s the busiest month of the year. The energy is electric, classes are fully booked, and as we set intentions for the year ahead, it’s incredible to see so many people choosing to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

One of my main intentions for 2026 is to maintain absolute consistency with my daily breathwork practice. Another is to attend more early morning classes. So this is me publicly announcing that I’ll be at some of those 6:45am and 7:45am classes from next week onwards. Feel free to hold me accountable (or chin me when you see me 😉).

January invites us to slow down, coorie in, set intentions, focus on fitness and truly nurture our bodies.

What are your January intentions?

Namaste Linda ❤️

Extra class alert! Don't miss yin yoga with Toni on Sunday at 6pm.

January asks us to slow down and search for that inner glow. To breathe deeper, move softer, and let go. This Sunday night, join us for Deep Release at 4pm. A gently heated class with music, focusing on stretching, releasing, and opening around the hips to fully unwind.

Then, slow it down even more with our extra Yin Yoga class at 6pm. Deep stretches. Gentle stillness. Pure relaxation. Release tension. Soothe the body. Calm the mind.

Come melt into stillness and start the year gently.
See you on the mat, Glasgow 🤍

Downward-Facing Dog Pose is a fundamental posture in yoga because it feels awesome all over and has so many benefits:

- It calms the brain and the nervous system
- Stretches while strengthening the back, hips, legs, arms, and shoulders
- It works the core
- Gives your body all the benefits of inversions without going completely upside down
- Builds strength in the biceps, triceps, shoulders, and upper back
- It also has all the qualities of a forward bend

One of the best things about yoga is that there is always somewhere to go, something to try, and something to play with. So, as your practice evolves and your Down Dog starts to feel like it needs a walk in the park, add this variation into your practice.

From Three-Legged Dog, lengthen through the spine and open your hip to the sky. Bend the knee of the extended knee and draw your heel toward the bum. Try to keep your shoulders even and squared with the front of your mat. Zip up your belly and squeeze your naval into your spine.

In addition to the benefits of Down Dog and Three-Legged Dog, this variation helps open and lengthen the side body, subtly transforming your posture.

A ball of fire, this is our Kal's vibe, sprinkling a bit of her optimism as she goes.

Thinking of it, Sagittarius is a sign of fire; no wonder her Bikram classes can be quite hot.

As a Sagittarius, she brings her upbeat energy into each class she teaches, so your body can leave the studio feeling invigorated, and your mind lifted.

And if you're looking for a good example of "how not to" and "how to" perform a pose, she is such a pro at demonstrating it!
You might have noticed the Sagittarius symbol is an arrow, and hers is quite literally "on point"!

How would you describe Kal's classes?
Got any special words of appreciation for our amazing teacher? Leave it in the comment, I'm sure she'll love to read it.

The only way we like to see the world upside-down is in a headstand.

Supported headstand is an energising inversion that relies on the strength of your upper body and core, while centring and focusing your mind.

Though there are many physical benefits, including building leg, arm, and core strength, this is a challenging pose that you must approach with a “safety first” mentality. The key to this asana is to avoid placing weight on your head and neck. Instead, let your arms and shoulders hold you up.

New to the pose?
• Practice Dolphin Pose in preparation for or instead of Headstand. Walk your feet toward your hands and bring your back perpendicular to the floor.
• Try against a wall. Take one foot, then the other, away from the wall as you find more strength and balance in the pose.

And remember, it's called "practice" for a reason!
