It can take just a few seconds for a child to accidentally brush past or touch a barbeque and this can have horrific consequences.
π₯If you are using a barbeque at home, never leave this unattended and never leave children unsupervised near a barbeque.
π₯Remember that all parts of a barbeque can get hot enough to burn someone, not just the cooking part with the coals, that means the lid, the back, the stand - donβt let a child touch any part of the barbeque equipment.
π₯If you are using a disposable barbeque, remember that the ground it sits on is hot enough to burn even after the BBQ has been extinguished and lifted, so donβt let little feet or hands touch the ground until you are sure that it has cooled.
π₯Have some sand and/or water available to distinguish the barbeque and cool the ground if necessary.
π₯Use long-handled tools
π₯If the worst happens and your child does get a burn, run the burn under cool running water for at least 20-minutes, remove any clothing or jewellery near the burn and call 111 or 999 if necessary. After running under cool, running water, cover with cling-film or a sterile, non-fluffy dressing or cloth.
Stay safe and enjoy your summer barbeques! π
