Top 5 Sprint Training Tips ☑️
(From David, International Sprinter + Long Jumper)
Sometimes the best advice is the stuff that sounds obvious… until you realise you’ve been doing the opposite for years.
David (international sprinter and long jumper, and now coach) shared these five top tips and they’re class. Simple, effective, and learned the real way through training, competing, and the occasional foot-related lesson nobody wants.
And yes, this is your reminder that your feet are the foundation.
They take the impact, the load, the mileage, the spikes, the bad decisions… and they’re still somehow the most ignored part of performance.
David’s dealt with the usual “small” issues that can quickly become big ones, like blisters, ingrown toenails, and ankle instability. Not because he wasn’t working hard, but because most athletes aren’t taught how much foot health affects speed, stability, and consistency.
He’s also 38 and still absolutely flying… which tells you everything you need to know 💨
David’s Top 5 Tips:
1. Drink water. Not vibes. Actual water.
2. Don’t cut your own toenails. Unless you enjoy consequences.
3. Don’t pick spikes because they look good. Your feet don’t care about aesthetics.
4. Train the smaller muscles as well as the big ones. Speed needs stability.
5. Enjoy it. Fast is good. Happy and fast is better.
David’s making serious moves with SprintsCo, and if you’re in Glasgow, you’ll want to keep an eye on what he’s building.
And from us at West End Foot Clinic: whether you’re an international athlete or just starting out, we’re here to support you!
Because feet are the one thing everyone relies on… and almost # everyone forgets about 🤦♀️
