💚 Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

At Ailsa Response, we know that looking after mental health is just as important as looking after physical health. This week is a reminder to pause, reflect, and check in, with ourselves and with each other.

We’re proud to have trained Mental Health First Aiders in place. They are there to listen, offer support, and help guide colleagues towards the right help when it’s needed. You are never alone.

We also offer access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), providing confidential advice and support for a wide range of issues, from stress and anxiety to financial or personal challenges. Support is available whenever you need it.

Most importantly, we encourage a culture of kindness, openness and connection. Whether it’s asking someone how they’re really feeling, offering a listening ear, or reaching out for support yourself, small conversations can make a big difference.

This Mental Health Awareness Week, let’s continue to:
✅ Check in with one another
✅ Speak openly and without judgement
✅ Remind ourselves that it’s okay not to be okay

Together, we can keep building a supportive, understanding workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. 💚

Care Creates… Fair Pay, Fair Work, Fair Care.

Across Scotland, social care is powered by people, from those just beginning their careers to experienced leaders guiding teams through the most important moments in people’s lives.

This week’s Care Creates stories shine a light on the individuals and teams who make care personal, compassionate and meaningful every day. They show how care is created through connection, creativity, recognition and trust.

Together, these stories reflect the breadth of Scotland’s social care workforce and the shared commitment to people at the heart of care.

Why recognition matters in care 🧡

Behind every moment of great care is a dedicated care worker giving their time, energy and dedication. Recognition isn’t always about big gestures, it’s about making people feel seen, valued and supported.

Our latest blog looks at why recognising care workers is so important, and the difference it makes for individuals, teams and the people we support.

Get Involved with the Virtual Village Hall! 🏡

The Virtual Village Hall is a free online community and activity hub created by our charity partner, the Royal Voluntary Service. It’s designed to help people stay socially connected, mentally stimulated and physically active - all from the comfort of their own home.

It offers a wide range of live and on‑demand activities, including:
❤️ gentle and seated exercise
❤️ music, singing and creative activities
❤️ arts, crafts and cooking
❤️ wellbeing and relaxation sessions
❤️ friendly talks and learning opportunities

There’s no sign‑up, subscription or special equipment needed, making it a great option for service users who may find it harder to get out and about or who would enjoy more social connection at home.

We encourage our colleagues to mention the Virtual Village Hall to service users or support them to explore it if they’re interested.

The Three C's... what are they?

At the heart of everything we do are our values: Care with Compassion, Competence, and Culture.

🧡 Care with Compassion – Treating every person we support (and work alongside) with empathy, dignity, kindness and respect, always seeing the person behind the task.

💡 Competence – Having the skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver safe, effective, high‑quality care, supported by ongoing learning and development.

🤝 Culture – Creating a positive, inclusive workplace where people feel respected, listened to and supported, and where learning and teamwork are encouraged.

These values guide everything we do, every day, for our colleagues and the people we support.

Voices of Care: What Care Means to Me 🧡

Care is one of the most powerful forces in our society. It is the thread that connects families, strengthens communities, and supports people to live with dignity, independence, and purpose.

For many carers, both paid professionals and those who care for loved ones at home, “care” is more than a job or responsibility. It is a deeply personal experience, shaped by compassion, resilience, and the desire to make a difference.

As part of our Voices of Care series, we’re shining a light on what care truly means to the people who give and receive it every day.

💬 What is Care Creates… and why it matters now

Care Creates… is a sector‑wide campaign led by Scottish Care, highlighting the vital role social care plays in supporting well-being, independence, fair work and strong communities across Scotland.

As we approach the upcoming elections, the campaign is helping to ensure that care is firmly part of the national conversation, showing decision‑makers, communities and candidates why funding care like it matters is essential for Scotland’s future.

Last weeks theme was 'Funding': investing in care like it matters, challenges the idea of social care as a cost, and instead positions it as essential infrastructure that delivers long‑term social and economic value.

Care Stories show what that looks like in practice:
- Investment in technology that supports well-being and connection
- Employee‑owned models delivering fair work and local economic value
- Long‑term capital investment creating future‑ready care environments

🔗 Read and share the stories, blog and full toolkit here:
https://scottishcare.org/news/care-creates-funding-care-like-it-matters-stories/

Every story helps show what’s possible when care is funded like it matters, especially at a time when Scotland is considering its priorities for the future.
