When we think about health, we often focus on what we can see and measure e.g. blood pressure, hormone levels etc. But just beneath the surface is something less talked about, yet just as essential: your energetic body.
In a balanced state, the body’s energy flows like a gentle, steady stream nourishing every cell, supporting emotional ease, and helping us feel grounded and clear. This energy moves along pathways (meridians) or energy wheels (chakras). However, in life things don’t always flow perfectly.
It is disheartening to hear, “Everything looks fine,” when your body is clearly telling you otherwise. You know something is off. This is where the concept of an energetic imbalance becomes especially relevant. One of the most overlooked ways is when our body tries to get our attention through the signs of an energetic imbalance. While these signs can vary from person to person, there are a few common patterns showing up when energy is not flowing freely.
Physically, you might notice things like persistent aches or tension in the shoulders, neck, or back. Digestive disturbances are also common such as bloating and sluggish digestion. These symptoms may not be severe enough to warrant a diagnosis, but they are uncomfortable and real. Emotionally, you might notice mood swings, irritability, or a sense of heaviness. You might feel “stuck,” like no matter what you do, you are not making progress or that your emotions are bubbling up at unexpected times. Moreover, midday crashes, difficulty sleeping, or a general sense of restlessness are all ways your system might be signalling a need for attention.
The good news? Energy is incredibly responsive to gentle, intentional work. Once we identify where the flow has been interrupted, it can often be restored in a way that is both powerful and deeply calming. The first step is simply understanding that the energy imbalances exist and they are very real, even if they don’t show up on a medical chart.
