Nadine McBay offers therapeutic massage, aromatherapy, pregnancy and postnatal massage, Indian Head Massage and Reiki at Woodland Herbs in Glasgow on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Aromatherapy massage
One of the most popular complementary therapies, aromatherapy uses essential oils extracted from plants and trees in conjunction with massage to promote health and wellbeing. Training in the therap
eutic use of essential oils allows me to make up blends most suitable for you and your particular physical and emotional condition. Indian head massage
A therapy popular with people looking for relief from everyday stresses and desk workers whose largely stationary work-life often creates tension in the upper body, shoulders, neck and head. Myofascial release
A technique I incorporate into therapeutic and aromatherapy massage when appropriate. A soothing, highly relaxing therapy that uses sustained pressures, light stretches and other techniques, myofascial release can be helpful in supporting people managing a range of conditions and in helping to relieve physical and emotional stress. Pregnancy and post-natal massage
Pregnancy and the post-natal period are times of change and development, both for mother and baby, and for the wider family. This time can affect the long term health of women and her family, and the support and encouragement of a trained bodyworker can be a valued addition to the mother's care-giving team. I have diploma in Massage and Pregnancy (with distinction) from Well Mother (www.wellmother.org), the acclaimed Bristol-based educational organisation established in 1990 by respected author-practitioner Suzanne Yates. Reiki
If you have had acupuncture, or an acupressure massage, or have gone to a Tai Chi class, you may already be familiar with reiki. Reiki does not claim to cure but can be supportive on emotional and spiritual or vibrational levels and is generally found to be a profoundly comforting and relaxing experience. I follow a Western teaching of reiki and can trace my lineage tree to Mikao Usui (1865-1926), the gentleman who brought this ancient Tibetan practise to the modern world. Therapeutic/Deep tissue massage
Therapeutic or Swedish massage is perhaps what most of us think of when we hear the word 'massage', though therapeutic massage is generally a deeper form than the lighter, 'pampering' massages often practiced in beauty salons. Using a variety of suitable techniques and strokes, it tends to focus on addressing the client's problem areas. Therapeutic massage is also suitable for people without specific problems and is useful for general stress relief and wellbeing. Don't worry if you're unsure which therapy is for you. Our needs change from day to day as life brings us different experiences, and together you and I will discuss your needs on the specific day that we meet. It may be that a combination of approaches and techniques will suit you best on any given day. In full consultation with you, I will always endeavour to give you the best treatment I can to address your needs and wishes. Clients are always advised to tell their therapist of changes in their medical situation. About me
Following years as a journalist, I retrained as a complementary therapist as I knew my passion lay in the field of holistic health. I had benefited greatly from massage, aromatherapy, acupuncture, herbalism and other treatments during many years of suffering from ME/CFS. At first all I knew was that I was unwell and that such therapies helped me. I wanted to find out why, an interest which only grew as I learned more. In the absence of definitive answers about my condition from conventional providers, I new that feeling good wasn't just about taking a pill, or that health was an absence of an established illness. A turning point was when my GP referred me to Glasgow's Centre For Integrative Care which I feel is a brilliant example of conventional and holistic techniques and modalities working together in the best interests of the patient. I firmly believe that this is what good health care is โ with the individual's physical, emotional and social needs taken into account. I am now a member of The Federation of Holistic Therapists (est 1962), the UK and Ireland's leading and largest professional association for therapists. The FHT requires all its members to be properly qualified, always professional and fully insured. In addition, I am required to abide by a respected Code of Ethics and to fulfil annual professional development requirements to continually improve the quality of my work, develop my education, treatments and expertise. As a holistic therapist, I strive to take into account the whole person on a physical, emotional and vibrational/spiritual level. Alongside my professional training in therapies, anatomy and physiology, I have also studied nutrition, pathology, Ayurveda, Transformational Breathing, Emotional Freedom Technique, Bach Flower Remedies and have many interests in the wide field of holistic and complementary health. I also worked behind the counter at Woodland Herbs and learned much about the Western herbal tradition and believe in people having the option and knowledge to treat their own minor ailments with herbs, after checking with a qualified herbalist. As a complementary therapist, I seek to cooperate with, and support the work of your conventional healthcare provider, most typically your GP. I also believe that complementary healthcare should be an option for as many people as possible, and encourage those who depend on state benefits to contact me if lack of funds is stopping them from coming to see me.
