Have you ever used melatonin?
Many of my clients have used melatonin or valerian but didn't have the need for it after the root cause of insomnia was addressed. I'm a huge advocate for education and thought these descriptions may help you understand how melatonin works and how hypnotherapy can help with sleep deprivation too.
Melatonin is a hormone produced naturally by the pineal gland, a small gland located in the brain. It plays a crucial role in regulating the sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm) and is often referred to as the "sleep hormone."
Melatonin levels increase in the evening as darkness sets in, signaling to the body that it's time to wind down and prepare for sleep. Conversely, melatonin levels decrease during daylight hours, promoting wakefulness.
Melatonin supplements are commonly used to help manage sleep disorders such as insomnia or jet lag. They can help reset disrupted sleep-wake cycles and improve sleep quality for individuals who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep.
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that uses guided relaxation, focused attention, and suggestions to create a state of heightened suggestibility and deep relaxation. In this state, individuals are more open to receiving therapeutic suggestions that can help them address various issues, including sleep problems, anxiety, phobias, and more.
Melatonin supplements work primarily by directly influencing the body's sleep-wake cycle. By taking melatonin at appropriate times, individuals can help regulate their circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.
Hypnotherapy works through relaxation and suggestion. It aims to alleviate sleep problems by addressing underlying psychological factors that might contribute to sleep disturbances, such as anxiety, stress, or negative thought patterns. By inducing a relaxed state and providing positive suggestions, hypnotherapy aims to reframe negative associations with sleep and promote more restful sleep patterns.
If you struggle with sleep, melatonin or valerian will probably help. Hypnoherapy isn't for everyone, but if you are open to discussing it, it might be the permanent solution you're looking for.
