Sometimes, young people or parents and carers do not seem fully engaged in the CBT you are trying to offer them.

It’s important not to put blame on them but, instead, aim to understand why this might be the case.

One approach that can help with this is motivational interviewing. Ideas from this style of communication can empowers CBT practitioners with skills to explore young people and parent/carers reasons for change, and support engagement at different points in the therapy process.

If you have a foundational understanding of CBT, come to our training to learn more about motivational interviewing.

It’s ideal for individuals working with children and young people across diverse settings, using CBT in their professional practice.
