Cerebral Palsy Scotland

Cerebral Palsy Scotland Specialist therapy, support and information for people with cerebral palsy. We’re ambitious for people with cerebral palsy.

We’re a charity that improves the lives of children and adults with cerebral palsy through specialist therapy, support and information. For over 25 years our therapists have worked alongside people with cerebral palsy, their families and carers, helping them develop practical skills which transform daily life. Founded by a group of determined parents whose children were unable to get the specialised therapy they needed close to home, we’re the only cerebral palsy charity in Scotland. As we’ve grown, the cerebral palsy community continues to be at the heart of everything we do. Our groups reduce isolation, bringing people with cerebral palsy and their families together. Our support service offers a listening ear and advice. We share our knowledge and skills through courses, conferences and working collaboratively. We raise awareness and we campaign for life-long access to knowledgeable, compassionate services and support. Every day in Scotland, people with cerebral palsy are not getting enough support. We need your donations to power our work, so that every person with cerebral palsy can reach their full potential.

Eight-year-old Johnathon comes to Cerebral Palsy Scotland for specialist physiotherapy. Mum Caeleigh told us, “Without Cerebral Palsy Scotland, Johnny wouldn’t have had access to physiotherapy. I think I would still be at rock bottom and we’d be lost. The therapy and support we have received has been genuinely life-changing.”

Make a donation to our services today for Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Head to the Donate section of our website.

This Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month we’d love to hear from you. Your experiences can help someone who is new to the cerebral palsy community feel seen, understood, and welcomed.
If you’d like to take part, simply choose one question that speaks to you and share your thoughts in the comments. If you’d rather share privately to your loved ones, that’s absolutely welcomed too. The main thing is to keep the conversation going and to help voices from the cerebral palsy community heard.

You might start your reply with something like:
- “What I wish I knew earlier…”
- “Advice I would give to parents who have children with cerebral palsy…”
- “A task I find harder is…”
Your story could be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.

10K Your Way for Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month is an accessible challenge that you and your family can do at a time and place that suits you! You can complete the challenge by walking, wheeling, running or cycling – however you wish. It’s ideal for children with cerebral palsy to get involved in their power chair, wheelchair, or being pushed by mum or dad. No registration is required.

If you’d like to take part, we’re asking people to set up a Just Giving page. It’s quick and easy:

1. Head to our Just Giving page here: Cerebral Palsy Scotland - JustGiving
2. Click ‘Start fundraising’
3. Enter 10K Your Way in the Events selector

When you’ve raised your first £20, please send us a link to your page at getinvolved@cpscot.org.uk and we’ll send you a free Cerebral Palsy Scotland t-shirt!

Rose and her family first attended our parent and baby class, Baby Buds. When she was two, our physiotherapists and speech and language therapist visited her locally in Fife, working with Rose’s family and nursery teachers, over several sessions.
This year, Rose and her parents attended a communications course at Cerebral Palsy Scotland. Rose’s mum Louise told us, “The communications course we attended recently was phenomenal. Rose loved it and wanted to demonstrate everything she had leaned at home".

March marks Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. It's a time for our community to come together, share our experiences and raise awareness of cerebral palsy.

We'll be sharing stories from children and adults we work with during the month of March. Dr Kirsty Colquhoun (pictured), was told she should consider another career when she told her guidance teacher she wanted to study medicine. Dr Kirsty is now an NHS consultant with a successful medical career. Read her story in the Blog section on our website.

If you'd like to make a donation, big or small, please head to the Donate section on our website. All donations go directly to our services for children and adults with cerebral palsy across Scotland. 💚
