As you all know this is the clubs 40th anniversary year. With so many people to thank. It would be impossible to get through everyone.
Our founder Davie Bryce started the club roughly around 1985 and we feel he put it amongst the best recovery groups fighting drink and drugs across the country.
With the support of so many.
Firstly Morrisons Gym it was said that this was Brycies second home at times with a massive thanks to Big Alex and Christine for their continued support with our meetings and the use of their gym facilities to all members over the decades.
Also, Thanks to The Trainspotting production crew and everyone associated with it.
All committee members past and present.
Other services which include, yoga, sound baths and CBT all helping with mental health.
A special mention to our own drug awareness team, lead by Wullie Burns, delivering educational talks to schools, secure institutions and prisons across the country. Wullie himself going on to mentor many of today’s school talk team.
The club is now lead by Davie Main, our director who’s been at the helm since 2011. Mentoring and advising so many of today’s members.
Davie, has been at the forefront of the group since the late 80’s.
In celebrating our 40th anniversary we tried to make this a special year by completing as many events as possible. Starting with New Year’s Day 2025 with Brycies 6 mile run over the carman hill in Cardross,
Then on to February with the start of the 16 week training program for the Edinburgh marathon. There was also a Monklands half marathon in April before the Edinburgh marathon was completed in May.
This was followed rapidly by a Father’s Day 10k in June, also in June was an Ultra marathon a 57mile cross country over central Scotland.
Onto July and Calton Athletic produced their first Ironman completing the Leeds event.
August brung The live it for Lee sprint triathlon and the Ravenscraig half marathon.
Come September the lads had pulled the boots on and had been training hard before tackling the 100 mile trek over the West highland way with 20 members completing it.
This was followed by The lochness marathon
Followed up by three half marathons The Great Scottish run in Glasgow, Strathclyde Park and Bellahouston.
We had our anniversary dance in September hosted by Mainy, with many awards to members and thanking all family and friends for their continued support and we would also like to Thank, You our followers for your continued support too!
We can only hope, That we have done Davie Bryce and everyone who has helped, supported or raised funds for our self funded organisation proud.
As this year is about to end we will continue to carry on Davie Bryce’s Legacy by starting off 2026 with our run over the Carman hill on New Year’s Day.
Thanks once again.
C’mon the Calton.
