Scotland have recently launched SafeConnect in partnership with Police Scotland – a new safeguarding initiative to support people with dementia who may be at risk of going missing.
The SafeConnect fob is a small, yellow device that can be carried or attached to clothing. It holds secure emergency contact details and can be scanned with a smartphone using Near Field Communication (NFC) to help quickly reunite someone with their loved ones or carers.
After a successful pilot in Argyll & Bute and West Dunbartonshire, we're now rolling out SafeConnect fobs free of charge to anyone living with dementia across Scotland.
To request a free SafeConnect set-up pack or learn more about the initiative, please visit our website - www.alzscot.org/safeconnect-request/

⚠️ Emergency Alert Test

This is a reminder that the UK Government will be carrying out an Emergency Alert Test at around 3pm on Sunday 7 September. The test alert will be sent to all compatible 4G and 5G mobile phones and tablets across the UK.

📢 A loud alarm will sound on mobile phones – even if they are set to silent.

People living with dementia may find the alert confusing or distressing. If you think the person you care for could be unsettled by it, you can switch the alerts off in your phone settings.

To opt-out:

📱iPhone: Search “Emergency Alerts” in settings → Turn off Severe & Emergency alerts

📱Android: Search “Emergency Alerts” in settings → Turn off Severe & Emergency alerts (and other threat categories if listed)

Our 24-hour Freephone Dementia Helpline (0808 808 3000) will be available throughout this time if you need support. 💜

MEET THE TEAM MONDAY

Hi, my name is Graeme and I’ve been a Social Care Worker with Caledonia Social Care for 7 years now, having previously worked in a similar role with Alzheimer Scotland since 2011.

I love my job, it is incredibly rewarding and I genuinely feel privileged to be able to support the people we do. Our services at Caledonia Social Care enable people to live as independently as possible in their community and to do the things that are important to them. To be able to do this as part of such a professional, supportive, caring team is the icing on the cake.

We help people with a range of care needs and we meet some great characters with a lifetime of experiences to share and all have their own stories to tell; it is very uplifting to be out and about and realising just how much good and kindness there is on our own doorsteps, both in the team and the families we work with.

If you would like to learn more about our services and discuss the benefits our support can have for you or someone you know, then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

MEET THE TEAM MONDAY.

My name is Angela. I have been a Social Care Worker with Caledonia Social Care for four years.

I really enjoy my role and love helping others; I enjoy working with a great team who are focused on giving each individual who has access our service, the best possible care.

In my role of Social Care Worker I love meeting lots of people. Each person is an individual with different needs and requirements. At Caledonia Social Care, we provide person centre care, by helping people to maintain their independence, participate in hobbies and make their own choices.

I live in the Falkirk area and I enjoy spending time with people and supporting them to access our local community. Encouraging people to continue with their hobbies and interests can be extremely fulfilling for us all. This can include choosing to visit a local bowling green or play a game of domino's. It is nice to help someone remain involved with their hobbies and the activities that are important to them.

There are many different activities we can help people participate in, such as:

•Outing to a park for a walk.
•Shopping for weekly shop.
•Visit to a garden centre.
▪︎Attend a Doctor appointment.
•Pick up prescription from chemist.
•Participate in crossword/puzzles.
•Have a cuppa and a chat.

This is only a small selection of what we can assist with and all of our services are tailored to what is important to you.

If you, or any of your family or friends, would be interested in the service we provide or would like any more information please get in touch.

MEET THE TEAM MONDAY 😊

My name is Ashley, and I work as a Social Care Worker for Caledonia Social Care in Falkirk.

I joined this lovely team a little over a year ago. I love that the company have a great approach to family life, which gives me a healthy work life /home life balance.

I live in the Falkirk area, so enjoy that I get to give back to my community; I enjoy spending time with people and supporting a person to live life to the full.

As a Social Care Worker, we deliver person centred support and work around a person’s likes and dislikes, their hobbies and interests. Our services enable a person to take control of their support, by making sure they are involved in every step along the way. This very much promotes a person’s independence.

A typical day in my job can look as follows:

A walk round a person’s favourite place
A coffee and a bite to eat
Support a person to attend appointments
A good chat and a reminisce through photo albums

So, if you are interested in hearing more about our services and how these could work for you or a loved one, please don’t hesitate to get in touch

MEET THE TEAM MONDAY 😊

My name is Kirsty, I am a Social Care Worker with Caledonia Social Care. I have been working for Caledonia Social Care for almost 5 years. We have an amazing team who work together to ensure we give the best care to people accessing our services throughout Central Scotland.

The thing I love most about my job is meeting people from all walks of life; the joy in a person’s face when I arrive for each visit is incredible and people will often say "what would I do without you?"

The truth is, what would we do without them, because at Caledonia Social Care, We are all in this together. I enjoy accompanying people out into the community and supporting them to do the things they love. This can include going to the garden centre or a place that means a lot to them, such as a favourite park or town #. I enjoy hearing all their interesting stories as we take a trip down memory lane.

I also love helping people complete a jigsaw that they have been trying to do for a long time or just being that friendly face when someone needs it; there really aren’t two people who are the same and every day is a different experience.

So, if you feel our services would benefit you or a loved one, please don’t hesitate to get in touch ❤️

💜 Raising awareness for Dementia Awareness Week 💜

Receiving a dementia diagnosis is life-changing. Even if someone sensed something wasn’t quite right, hearing the words out loud can change everything. In moments like this, friendship becomes more important than ever.

This Dementia Awareness Week, we are celebrating the power of friendships and how they can be a powerful force in the life of a person with dementia - and how staying connected can bring comfort, joy and a sense of belonging to people living with dementia.

Friends help keep memories alive and reduce loneliness not only for the person with dementia but their friends and family too. Small acts of friendship – whether a visit, a phone call or a shared moment – can make a world of difference.

We can all make sure nobody faces dementia alone.

How can you get involved?
