**GP IT system changes**

Riverview - Wednesday 6th May

Important information for patients
GP practices across NHSGGC are in the process of moving to a new GP IT system. This change is part of a wider programme to support a major computer upgrade that will see all practices across Scotland using the same GP IT system.

What does this mean for patients?
For most patients, there will be little or no long‑term change to how you access GP services. However, during the changeover period, you may notice some temporary differences for a period of approximately 10 days.

These may include:

Reduced appointment availability on specific days. Please only contact the practice if you require urgent medical assistance on the day
Changes to online services (such as appointment booking or ordering repeat prescriptions)
Delays in processing non‑urgent requests or paperwork
Your GP practice team will do everything they can to minimise disruption and continue to provide safe care.

When will I know if my GP Practice is undergoing this change?
GP Practices will look to contact all patients in advance with as much notice as possible. This page will also list the impacted GP Practices below.

If you have not been contacted or informed of any impact, this change has already happened or will happen in the future.

What does this mean for GP Practice Clinical & Administration teams?
*This change represents a significant shift for clinical and administrative teams, who are adapting to new systems and processes while continuing to provide frontline care. Implementing a large‑scale change of this nature takes time, and staff are managing additional complexity as the new arrangements are introduced. We appreciate patients’ understanding during this period of transition.

What is not changing?
* You will remain registered with your GP practice.
* Urgent care will continue to be available as normal.
* Your medical records will be transferred securely.
* Routine appointments will be available again to book in the coming weeks.

What can patients do to help?
* Contact your practice directly if you have urgent health concerns.
* Continue to attend appointments as scheduled unless you are advised otherwise.
* If you are due to order a prescription during this time, please submit your request early.
* Use online services only as advised by your practice during this period.

Please be patient and understanding if there are short delays.

Thank you for your patience while this important work is carried out to improve GP IT systems for the future.

** IMPORTANT MESSAGE**

All GP practices in Scotland are changing their clinical system. Riverview Medical Centre will undergo this migration in May. From Thurs 7th May to Wed 13th May we are 'READ ONLY' access to the medical record system.

As a result:
1. No prescriptions will be issued 7th May to 13th May. You MUST order them early! The cut-off date will be Tuesday 5th May.
2. You will NOT be able to make future appointments
3. We cannot do non-emergency bloods.
4. We will not receive any clinic letters, results, x-rays etc.
5. We cannot supply copies of medical records or private medical reports

We are live on our new system Wednesday 13th May. From this date we will be operating an emergency and reduced service in order to allow all staff and GP's to familiarise themselves with the new system.

This is a huge task!

The changes above are for a short period of time. We ask you to be very patient with all the staff whilst we learn to navigate the new system

Thank you, Riverview Medical Centre.

Medicines waste costs NHSGGC £100,000 every day – we need your help to tackle it.

Small steps, big impact
There are things we can all do to help reduce waste:

1. Resist the urge to over-order medicines: Check what medicines you have at home before you re-order, and only order what you really need when you need it
2. Take control of your medication: Speak to your GP, pharmacy team or nurse about reviewing your medication to make sure they are still right for you
3. Know how to dispose of unused medicines: If you have medicines at home that are out of date or no longer required, return them to your local pharmacy for safe disposal.

** Take control of your medication – ask for a medicines review
Contact your GP practice and ask to be referred to the GP practice pharmacy team to discuss if your prescription is still right for you.**

Delivering better health.

Meningitis -Current Outbreak: Advice

Cases remain geographically localised to Kent and there is no evidence of any increased risk or wider spread elsewhere.

You can be reassured that there is no increased risk of MenB or other meningococcal disease in Scotland at present.

Symptoms can include: a high temperature (fever) over 37.5ºC (99.5ºF), severe and worsening headache, rapid breathing, drowsiness or confusion, shivering, vomiting and diarrhoea, cold hands and feet, and joint and muscle pain. Meningococcal disease can also cause a characteristic rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass, stiff neck, and dislike of bright lights.

Urgent medical help should be sought via 999 for an ambulance or through A&E. If assistance is less urgent, contact 111 or your GP.

More information on your local immunisation team and how to obtain your vaccine record is available on NHSinform: Meningitis | NHS inform and Sepsis | NHS inform.
