We believe that sharing stories impacts on culture.

Little by little, such stories shape and influence narratives - for positive benefits. So that more women experience birth services as a space where they are both supported and enabled.

We are listening, would you like to share your story with us? You can do this through an art process, written or spoken word.

The next birth stories art workshop takes place on the 9th May in Glastonbury, with another on the 11th July in Shepton Mallet. You can find out more and book through the Linktree link in our Bio.

Or if you prefer to share your story privately, please reach out via the contact link in our Linktree.

Oh my gosh… we’ve had a flood.

Not the kind of message you ever want to write.

Water came through the ceiling at the Sacred Birth Centre. That sudden, heart-dropping moment of what has just happened? Buckets, towels, that strange mixture of urgency and disbelief.

For a few moments, everything stops.

And then… something else.
A reminder of beauty.
We will be closed today and tomorrow whilst we get it sorted. See you all again on Thursday. This only impacts the shop. All our events and other rooms are still open. Enter through Lambrook Street entrance.

In this week's Birth Stories Substack post, we explore 'the art of birth stories'.

⭐️ Art is a powerful way to express feelings and sensations that for many people can be hard to verbalise.

Creating birth art can enable women to feel ownership of their unique experience and can support meaningful connections and insights to be gained.

We believe that birth stories change culture. Creating art is part of this process.

Your birth story matters. And deserves to be expressed, witnessed, and honoured. As Sheila Kitzinger so beautifully said — when women share their birth stories, they reclaim their power and transform birth culture.
Whether yours was joyful, complicated, traumatic, or somewhere tenderly in between — it belongs in the tapestry of true birth culture.

The Birth Stories Project is a space for your story, your truth, and your experience to be expressed and received with care. Join us at one of our upcoming events to share your story, and become part of a living, breathing art exhibition that honours the power of birth. 🌿

We would love to welcome you. ✨

Joy Horner shares with us the beautiful stories of her own pregnancies, demonstrating how each pregnancy can offer a unique journey in preparation for the birth of each child 🌀

There is so much that can be said for birth being an initiation, but sometimes the conversation that isn’t had as often, is the transformation of pregnancy and the journey towards the type of Mother you will need to become 🤍

Trusting in this process and knowing that the challenges and the blessings are working in your favour and preparing you for the journey that comes next 👣

Birth Stories Project - exciting update!

Stories are being shared through written word, audio, art, prose and poetry with us - we are so grateful. Many of these contributions will form part of the project's multi media exhibition. We can now share that this will take place on - September 26th and 27th at the Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury.
Please do save the date!

This exhibition will hold a variety of micro-spaces which all have different connections to birth and birthing experiences. The overall aim is to enable a broad range of experiences of birth to be shared. This unique exhibition will be an act of advocacy also, sharing women and birthing people's feelings about choices available in the journey through birth.

We will share more details about the exhibition very soon.

We have three more art workshops coming up (see details in the slide or in our Bio). The next one is in Wells on the 24th April from 10am-1.30pm. If you prefer to share through written or recorded words, please do connect either on here or via the linktree link in our Bio.

Honouring space for grief, fear and uncertainty in the early stages of pregnancy after loss can be so important.

Finding your voice to share the tender parts of Motherhood is a medicine for both those who share and those who listen.

Malika Ndlovu, South African poet, performer, and mother will be sharing her voice this coming Tuesday at a free Webinar hosted by Robyn Sheldon.

Her memoir ‘Invisible Earthquake’ was born from a heart-shattering year of poetry through the loss of her stillborn daughter, and her emergence as a powerful voice for women walking that same path 🌀

Gathering in the space of grief, allowing it to be witnessed and held, no matter your journey, can be such a potent tonic 🤍

If you wish to attend the Webinar, find the link in bio.

Books we recommend in early pregnancy 📚

This Month at the Sacred Birth Centre, we are focusing on Pregnancy ✨

Here are some of the books we would recommend in the First Trimester, as a Woman begins her journey through the portal of Motherhood 🌀

- Matrescence by Lucy Jones
“As it deepens our understanding of Matrescence, it raises vital questions about Motherhood and Femininity; interdependence and individuality identity; as well as our relationships with each other and the living world.”

- Bump, how to make, grow and birth a baby
“An intimate dive into the scientific, political, social and personal nature of pregnancy in all its stages.”

- The Doula Deck
Not a book but it has slipped its way into our list thanks to its gentle support for the transformative experience of pregnancy, childbirth and new motherhood.

- Baby Talk to Me
“A combination of Alison Shaloe’s experience of being a Midwife who communicates with babies before life, during pregnancy and birth and after loss. Alison has brought together her experience, ancient wisdom, midwifery knowledge, birth phycology and pre birth communication, along with messages from spirit babies for those on the journey to Motherhood.”
