Is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) an appropriate, safe, and effective device to use for somebody suffering with anemia?

The answer (for the most part) is yes.

Severe anemia is considered an FDA approved indication for HBOT.

Typically, that is reserved for very severe cases and is associated with blood loss anemia. Meaning that this person has lost enough blood, that there's just not enough red blood cells carrying oxygen to deliver oxygen to the cell.

Why does hyperbaric work if the issue with anemia is some type of dysfunction, leading to the inability to deliver oxygen to our cells through the normal physiologic delivery system?

Super saturating the plasma with oxygen is the solution and in HBOT, that's what we're doing. We're bypassing red blood cell carrying capacity altogether and we're dissolving additional oxygen into the fluids of the body.

As a result, we can deliver oxygen to those cells sufficiently through creating this oxygen surplus in the plasma of the blood.

Detective work is probably necessary to figure out why this person has been chronically anemic.

In the meantime, HBOT is the temporary solution to help make sure they're getting the oxygen that they need while we figure out what else this person is going to require in order to fully heal.
