π¨ Ice cream! So no, not all yoga teachers are vegan. Some are veggie and some, like me, eat anything. I LOVE food! I never touched lobster though, the cruelty of being boiled alive... Just no.
π Ahimsa is the first yama (discipline towards others and the planet) of yoga: non-violence/ harmlessness.
πΏ You could argue that eating meat is violent. You can argue that it isn't when buying from ethical sources where animals have a great life.
πΏ You could argue that there are plenty of alternatives, or that ethical animal produce is natural and better absorbed than processed 'food' like factory produced supplements for example.
πΏ You could argue that some bodies need it for health, or that someone doesn't know how to eat vegan.
πΏ You could argue that killing is wrong, or that plants are living beings with feelings too and killing them is the same as killing animals.
Different perspectives.
Yoga teaches about characteristics of energy: Sattva, rajas, and tamas. Sattvic foods like ghee, butter, fresh vegetables promote health and strength. Rajasic (excessively bitter, salty, and sour) like fish, hot spices, and coffee promote disease and tamasic foods suck your energy - overcooked/ processed/ heavy foods.
π€ Are you living with awareness? Where do you buy from? How is it grown and transported? What is the price the planet, people, animals, and body pays? How YOUR body responds to certain crops or produce is not the same as how someone else's body responds.
Thinking about actions, educating, and raising awareness matters. Inspire instead of finger point. Yoga teacher is a label through certification and it doesn't explain the depth and views of each teacher.
I am not a yogi in the true sense, I've never claimed I am. I LOVE yoga and human experiences. I now eat most things and I do drink sometimes. I try to be aware where food comes from. Welfare is important as is how crops are grown. There is harm there too. Hello avocados, tea, and chocolate. Moderation.
I teach about the philosophy of yoga, share ancient text, and be a forever student. I am honest (satya), boycott, and inspire people to be curious, reflect, and act upon THEIR findings - not mine. I incorporate yoga into my life as I do magick living MY sacred life and what is Sacred to me, might not be the same to you.
As a yoga teacher, I might not resonate with you and that is ok. Find someone you do resonate with but also sit with what makes you uncomfortable. Be curious.
