Role

You will be required to assist a 76 year old man with dementia, to live independently in his own home and assist with personal care.

Our client lives with his wife and they require some support. Up to 17 hours per week covering morning routine, bedtime and 1 or 2 , 2-3 hr blocks to provide some respite. Regular weekends not mandatory but 2 hrs every other Sunday to allow his wife to attend Church would be desirable. Family flexible around timings of shifts, within reason.

We are looking for a PA that can provide support for our son for 3 hours every Saturday or Sunday Term time. Then 6 hours a week on the holidays Mon-Fri. The person appointed will be openly loving and supportive towards him, they will be patient, playful and confident with a child with challenging behaviours.

About our son He is 11 years old and he is diagnosed with ASD. This affects him most of the time in respect of keeping him safe.

He is loving and mischievous. He loves arts and crafts with making anything out of large boxes and sellotape. He looks forward to tight cuddles, support and reassurance when needed. He is fully trained but needs prompting for hygiene and cleanliness and is able to understand basic instructions but needs repeated several times. He can protest about new activities that he finds challenging and gets anxious in loud and uncertain situations which can cause him to want to get away, so he needs to be supervised very closely at all times.

He has very good gross motor skills so his hours can be used for walks around the local Woodland trails, making up “Mine craft” stories and “Dungeon and dragons”. He loves swimming even though he is not a strong swimmer, he finds the water very calming. He enjoys playing with Lego and making items using his imagination. He is looking for someone who will go on adventures and try and new things.

We can provide a room for play- with various activities and can be used with him at home as an alternative. We also welcome any sensory activities that you have experience of and we are happy to provide materials for this too.

Job Title: Personal Assistants / Re-advertisement – Extended closing date

Post (a) - Personal Assistant – Mon – Fri evenings

Post (b) - Personal Assistant – Sundays only

Salary or Hourly Rate: £9.50 - £10.02 per hour

Contract type: Permanent

Hours of Work: New staff required to supplement existing staff team. Two posts are available for Personal Assistants. Applicants may apply for one or both posts.

Post (a):- 9 hours a week over 5 evenings between 8pm and 10pm Monday to Friday. This is to assist an elderly gentleman with MS in his bedtime routine and general related household tasks.

Post (b):- 5 hours a week (8am-1pm) Sunday. This is to prepare the gentleman for the day. Duties will include moving and handling, showering, dressing and general household tasks.

Location of Work: Dunfermline

Experience Required: Previous experience of working and of providing personal care is advantageous but not essential

Useful Qualifications: Driver preferred with own transport. References and work history required. Work is in a non-smoking environment. Applicant must be of a caring disposition.
