With his 90th birthday coming up soon, I've been occupied lately helping a family friend track down some of his old friends from the 1950's. It's been quite a task but very rewarding and I've heard some great stories along the way.

Ancestry research is always interesting and leaves me wanting to discover more!

World War I.

I came across these very poignant words from a young soldier onboard a ship heading to France in May 1915:

"At last we were really on our way, after all the delays and waiting we were going overseas like the rest! And it had all been done so quickly that only now, as we stood on the darkened boat and watched the lights of England receding, did we begin to realise what it meant – this stealthy journey of nearly a thousand souls across the Channel, which many of us had never seen before, and which many more were never to see again".

27 CHILDREN.

Robert & Mary were a married couple in Lancashire in the 1840's and had 27 children together - quite a feat! The local newspaper reports that all of the children had been born as single births. Sadly though, only 4 of them survived.

Mary herself died a couple of months after the birth of her 27th child in 1850. She "gradually sank, her medical adviser never having held out any cheering hope of her ultimate recovery" and "was interred in the same grave as her deceased children".

JILTED AT THE ALTAR.

In a recent search I came across a man named Thomas who is recorded as a bachelor all through his life. But it seems that Thomas came close to marrying. In 1856 he is recorded as the intended groom but church records reveal that Thomas "left the church before being married". We'll never know the reasons why but I guess it just wasn't for him.

It never fails to astound me how some people can get things so wrong...this person thinks John Leigh was born in 1772.....8 years after they reckon he died!! Praise the Lord! It's a miracle!!

SURPRISED!!

I've recently been researching a Lancashire family and was struggling to get beyond a brick wall, until I found some obscure records that helped me out no end.

The surprise though was when I looked to see who had transcribed those records back in 1993. It was a lady named Margaret Purcell from Blackpool.....she is my Mum's cousin!!

LOL...I've spotted some howlers on peoples' ancestry trees today!

According to one tree, "Hannah" was born in 1823 and married in 1829.....6 years old? Really?

What secrets can I discover for you?

For many years now I have enjoyed ancestry research and I would like to help you discover what secrets lie in your family’s past.

Your ancestors may be criminals or murderers, but most likely they will be similar to you or I; decent people trying to earn a living to improve the lives of their children. Their lives are still fascinating and make us part of what we are today. Their stories should be told, treasured and handed down to future generations.

Please get in touch if you think I can help you.

On this page I am including little snippets of what I have unearthed on the commissions I have already done to give you an idea of what stories are out there just waiting to be found........
