Many children learn about s*x via online p**nography. New Zealand warns this is not exactly ideal.

Today I am grateful that I have a nursing and teaching background and that all those years ago (nearly 50!) I had such excellent anatomy and physiology teachers. It means that today I can still share this invaluable knowledge with my nearest/dearest.

We were watching Jeremy Vine on 5 this morning asking why Freshers are invited to "consent" classes. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, our s*x education system is so non existent, piecemeal, and inconsistent that young people tell us they access p**n to learn about s*x. That's one answer to that question.

P.s. We have always discussed consent in s*x ed sessions. Year 6,7,8,9 and wouldn't hesitate to introduce it in Freshers week if it was up to us.

A good days s*x education at Tarporley High with Janet Wild today. We did 3 sessions each on contraception with about 30 year 9s in each session and also had a whole year session in the hall on sti's. Hundreds!!! Great thoughtful questions, showing a lot of learning with only a little bit of embarrassed giggling.

Did anyone see the BBC 3 interactive drama broadcast last night on s*xual harassment in the workplace? (and many more issues - e.g. power, consent, entitlement , s*xism, barriers to assertiveness, what really is "banter" ) It was on quite late so may have missed opportunities to help people really understand what s*xual harassment really is, and change their behaviour accordingly. It was aimed at young working people but I think could be useful in PSHE.

Barbara has always worked in the community both here in the UK and Worldwide, with a strong focus on health promotion. She has now retired but Contraception Education is managed by Sara Ashpital with a new name; Health Education UK The focus is now Personal, Social and Health Education in general.
