I have a BSc degree in Psychology & Criminology fromKeel University, a Level 3 NVQ in Health and Social Care (children & young people) and I also have a life coaching qualification.

Many suggest modes of 'dealing' with anger that can be suppressive or even shaming: meditating, deep breathing, releasing, letting go and more.

Why sometimes shaming? Because they may imply that anger arises because something is wrong with you, something that needs to be fixed or corrected, as opposed to something meaningful and purposeful.

While these approaches can be temporily useful in certain violent moments, they are incomplete and essentially not psychological - psychology is about exploration and communication with the psyche.

In that vein, when I work with a client on their anger, I say let's explore it, get behind it, examine it, allow it to manifest here with me in our session. I say, "Feel it in your body, make a sound, draw a picture, imagine an image, show it to me..."

I want to get to know their anger and, in doing so, I want the client to make a better relationship with it.

This way we can uncover and demystify its meaning and usefulness by allowing it to manifest freely in a safe environment.

When that happens, clients invariably find that hidden inside their anger is needed energy, power or insight about the ways they are being treated inside of themselves or in the world around them.

Or, they discover life changes they need to make - changes they are unable to make without greater connection to their power, confidence or fire, including career directions and relationship changes.

When people do not gain these insights, anger is likely to reoccur because anger arises with power and purpose, not simply as a symptom needing to be eradicated.
