It's alcohol awareness week. Regular alcohol consumption can negatively impact our sleep, mood and energy levels. Did you know alcohol is broken down into sugar? Would you like to reduce your drinking to help improve your blood sugar control? Help is available through Healthy Lifestyles Gloucestershire

It’s easy to underestimate how much that “one or two drinks” after work can affect us. Over time, even moderate drinking can interfere with how well we sleep, how focused we feel the next day, and how we manage stress or communicate with others at work.

During Alcohol Awareness Week 2025, we’re highlighting how alcohol and work are more connected than many people realise. Whether you’re an employee, manager or business owner, it’s important to reflect on how drinking habits both inside and outside working hours, might be impacting workplace wellbeing and performance.

By raising awareness and talking more openly, we can support healthier choices, reduce stigma, and promote balance and wellbeing across every kind of workplace. 🍷💼🧠

Mindful eating can help with diabetes management

Mindful eating can help with diabetes management

Lets explore the how do I eat aspect of the mindful eating cycle. Questions to ask yourself
* Do I eat while distracted, for example while watching T.V. or scrolling through social media or answering emails?
* Do I eat fast?
*Do I eat differently in public than I do in private?

Eating has become something we do whilst doing something else. Why is this a problem? Its because when eat whilst distracted we are not focusing on what we are eating but on what we are doing, which means we are less likely to recognise when we have had enough to eat. Which can lead to overeating, less enjoyment of food and may also impact digestion. Here are some tips to eat in a more mindful way
1. Eat without screens, so turn T.V, phone or laptop off. Sounds too hard? try starting with one meal a day and work up from there
2. Eat at a table rather than desk or settee
3. Put your fork down between mouthfuls, this will automatically make speed of eating slow down
4. Make your plate look appealing and then take the time to appreciate how your food looks and smells
5. Pause midway through your meal and take time to reflect on fulness cues. Remembering to ask the important question am I hungry?
