Did you know that taking 300mg of magnesium a day can help with anxiety? It can also help calm nerve pain, such as Sciatica; especially if combined with Vitamin C which helps the surrounding damaged tissue. There are essential oils that can also help with pain and inflammation. If it is a new flare up of pain try alternating an ice pack with a heat pack or hot water bottle. Gentle stretching and moving around is often better than complete inactivity. Always consult your doctor if you are suffering sciatica, especially if you are experiencing any numbness. It’s that time of year again! Hay Fever oh no! Drop a few drops of chamomile essential oil in water and make a cold compress for sore eyes… always patch test first. Lavender can be used neat in insect bites.
20 drops of lavender oil in after sun will really help sun burn. Or mic it with almond oil.

A MUST watch is “earthing the documentary “ on Utube
Read on; much more relevant after watching the documentary
Native American Indians knew this
There is a road in the hearts of all of us, hidden and seldom travelled, Which leads to an unknown, secret place. The old people came literally to love the soil, And they sat or reclined on the ground with a feeling of being close to a mothering power.
Their tepees were built upon the earth and their altars were made of earth. The soul was soothing, strengthening, cleansing and healing.
That is why the old Indian still sits upon the earth instead of propping himself up and away from its life giving forces. For him, to sit or lie upon the ground is to be able to think more deeply And to feel more keenly. He can see more clearly into the mysteries of life and come closer in kinship to other lives about him.

Do you know anyone who suffers with Gout? The essential oil Juniper is excellent at breaking down the uric acid that causes it. A few drops in a carrier oil and massaged into the feet twice or three times a day.

To help live a happier life try always to be present. Living life as a could have, would have, should have. Is basically living in the past summoning up emotions that are negative, such as regret, remorse. Thinking you will only be happy when you get a better car, better house. Better job is living in the future, this can cause anxiety! Suddenly you will be 70 and realise you have waiting all your life to be happy. Try to have gratify in your life now it raises your vibration and attracts better things. Obviously some people are in situations that are really difficult and will need help with, at Gloucester Health we have a range of therapies to help you.

Respiratory problems and persistent coughs are common after COVID 19; so I am adding this blog as several people have asked me about coughs and colds or long term coughs especially after COVID-19. We first need to cover the basics: are you drinking enough water? without enough water the mucus in your lungs may become to thick and sticky to cough out and it will sit in the tiny Aveoli in the lungs making oxygen transfer difficult. Also you need to be eating a balanced diet, getting fresh air and regular exercise. See a Dr with any persistent cough and insist on an XRAY if you are not happy that things are clearing up. One thing that can happen is that sinus's can get blocked without you realising it as such and then at night mucus can trickle down the back of your throat and into your lungs causing a mucus build up. Try taking Sudafed for a couple of days as this can help to clear the sinus's; also steam inhalations are really good for shifting stubborn blockages but you need to do it twice a day for 10 minutes. There are also reflex points on the feet and hands to help stimulate the sinus's and clear them.

Vitamin C can be taken in much higher doses by some people and you will know when you have taken too much as it will effect your bowels so that you become loose. A good idea is to increase your vitamin C every few days until what we call bowel capacity in other words once you get a bit loose cut back to the daily dose before you got "loose" bowels. Vitamin C really helps mucus membranes and also clears the urinary system. This is why you crave vitamin C type foods when you are ill. I always crave an orange when I am coming down with a cold.

Try getting some fresh sage and making sage tea by adding some finely chopped sage to boiling water and leaving to steep and then drinking it five minutes or so later. ( you should avoid sage if pregnant or trying for a baby.

You can make a mixture of essential oils a couple of drops of each in a carrier oil like almond oil and rub it into your chest or you can drop the mixture into a very warm bath to inhale the steam. or you can use it for steam inhalations. The following oils are very good for respiratory complaints:

Inhaling oils in steam should be avoided with ASTHMA and may start an attack; although smelling antispasmodic oils dropped on a tissue or placed in a
humidifier may well help when an attack is at crisis point. Some asthmatics
can be allergic to the oils themselves since the condition arises from
allergens linked to stress. Chamomile is a gentle oil which may well help as too
is Bergamot.
It is also recommended that Lavender and Rose be used in massage of the
thorax and Clary Sage, all of which are antispasmodics.

Asthma Basil, Sage, Lemon Thyme Lavender Marjoram Melissa *** PLEASE NOTE ABOVE***
Peppermint Pine Rosemary
Bronchitis Basil Bergamot Cajuput Aniseed Hyssop Lavender Benzoin Clove Sandalwood
(chronic) Eucalyptus Lemon Melissa Peppermint Pine Origanum
Niaouli Sage Tea Tree Rosemary Savory

Some oils mix together better than others; so seek advice from an aromatherapist as some oils are also quite potent.

You can also put some Eucalyptus on a hankie and breath it in this can really help.

NIAOULI is a very good oil for mucus in the respiratory system

Herbs that you can use are cayenne pepper, cinnamon and Hyssop- what I will add that a sluggish digestive system will not help either so make sure you have plenty of bowel movements. A build up of toxins in the hind gut will not help

If you have had bad news or a shock there are several essential oils that can help you. Camphor, Melissa and Peppermint and Neroli are all good for shock. I would suggest Camphor and Peppermint blend put on a tissue and inhaled. Basil, juniper, Lavender, Cedarwood, Neroli and Rose are good for sudden or acute stress. Lavender and Rose oil blended together are very calming, you can add Geranium for an uplifting effect. You could add this to a carrier oil and drop in the bath or have a massage. Remember you only need a few drops of each oil as they are very powerful. Inhaling the aroma straight out of the carrier oil with the oils in can help. Or massage the oil into your face and neck both Lavender and Rose are very safe on the skin on the face and can help your complexion too!

Frankincense essential oil wonderful for skin; especially ageing skin. Add a few drops to your routine moisturiser and check out the difference after one month. Remember to drink plenty of water to help every cell in your body in particular skin cells.

There is a lot of information about meditation for anxiety on social media. From what I hear from my clients most feel they are not gaining what they should from it. When I ask them what they are doing they say they “trying to empty their mind and relax” or words to that affect. This is not easy to do especially for someone new to meditation. This is what I suggest you try if you are having problems trying to meditate. First find a quiet place that you will use do it Then it becomes your place to be quiet. Maybe light a candle, dim the lights. Play some spiritual music I thoroughly recommend Jai Dagleesh. Meditation is something you start small and get better at over time; rather like any skill. The first one to try is a 5 minute body scan. So sit comfortably close your eyes and focus all your attention on your right little toe. Then your second toe; move along thinking about each toe and then the whole foot, see if it tingles as you place your attention there, is it warm/cold? Move up the leg, lower then knee and then thigh: then move to the other foot and repeat. Carry out this scan of your whole body noting any sensations you feel but not dwelling on it, when you have scanned your whole body see if it feels different are you more aware of your extremities? The aim of this meditation is to make you aware of your body and to give your mind a focus; and so begins the start of meditation training. You can do this scan anytime you are anxious; or waiting in a queue; or waiting at the doctors or dentist; or for an interview or just waiting to meet a friend. This way we use our mind rather than it uses us. Please like and share .

David Symth (Lic, Ac, MBAcC cert AC, (nanjing) (seoul)

Hello – my name is David Smyth and I am a qualified acupuncturist & energy worker; treating people from the Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Cheltenham and Monmouth, I qualified in acupuncture in 1987 with a Lic Ac from Leamington, and became a Touch for Health Instructor in 1988. I then went on to study further Traditional Chinese Medicine at London and Nanjing (China).

Holistic medicine is core to my belief system. Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in China and other Eastern countries for thousands of years. Although often described as a means of pain relief, it is in fact used to treat people with a wide range of illnesses. Its focus is on improving the overall well being of the patient, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body's motivating energy - known as Qi - moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin. Qi consists of equal and opposite qualities -Yin and Yang - and when these become unbalanced, illness may result.

By inserting fine needles into the channels of energy, an acupuncturist can stimulate the body's own healing response and help restore its natural balance. The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, stress, anger, fear or grief, poor nutrition, weather conditions, hereditary factors, infections, poisons and trauma. The principal aim of acupuncture in treating the whole person is to recover the equilibrium between the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual.

I have also pioneered my own energy therapy called reharmonising, established in 1988, it has since led to a self healing therapy called Unwinding which I practice in both Gloucester and The Forest of Dean. I have also re-discovered a previously lost healing system called "toe twisting" which benefits the whole body and releases blocked energy.

Sue Chant

Hi – my name is Sue Chant

As a therapist of many years, I am passionate about holistic therapies and how they can improve well-being.

Fully qualified and insured in aromatherapy, massage, reflexology & crystal healing i am also a certified life coach with qualifications in both mindfulness and meditation. I'm also a Reiki Master/Teacher.

I offer a free 15 minute consultation to all new clients to be able to guide you towards the best treatment for your needs. Sometimes a range of treatments is best & so i am happy to use a variety of holistic treatments for the best effect at no extra charge. You might be unsure about how reflexology, Reiki or crystal healing might benefit you and we can talk that through too.

As a masseuse, I use Neals Yard Remedies; I love the wonderful essential oils of Neal's Yard for a full therapeutic experience. How would you feel about a completely bespoke massage using a blend of oils unique to you? Maybe the Women's Balance Massage blend might be of interest, or a total relaxation massage?

Any other treatment can be combined with massage and I will do my very best to help you so that you can walk away feeling relaxed and optimistic.
