Have you noticed behavioural or personality changes in a loved one over the festive period? 🤔

They may have struggled with their memory, often repeated themselves, or weren't as interested in activities or socialising as they usually are.

You may be wondering, is it dementia? 💭

It’s common for families to notice these changes when they spend longer periods together.

We always see an increase in calls to our Helpline after Christmas, with many callers talking about the changes they've seen during this time. ☎️

If you're concerned that your loved one is experiencing signs of dementia, it's important that they see their GP as soon as possible.

You can also speak to a specialist dementia nurse on our Helpline by calling 0800 888 6678 or emailing helpline@dementiauk.org.

Do you know what sundowning is?

Sometimes you might see changes in the person’s behaviour in the later afternoon or towards the end of the day 💙

During this time the person may become intensely distressed, agitated and have hallucinations or delusions.

This may continue into the night, making it hard for them to get enough sleep.

This is sometimes known as ‘sundowning’ but is not necessarily linked to the sun setting or limited to the end of the day.

Sundowning can happen at any stage of dementia but is more common during the middle stage and later stages.
