💪🏾 Resilience 💥

Great time this week talking to a wonderful bunch of NHS advanced nurse practitioners on resilience and how we can build our own inner strength 🧠 and regulate our nervous system.

Of course followed by a relaxing mini yoga class 🧘🏻 ✨

☀️ Health doesn’t have to be complicated ☀️

Small, sustainable changes will be much better for you and your body in the long run than extreme diets/ fitness trends.

🌟 Small, achievable changes are more likely to become habits rather than big changes which can often fizzle out when we lose ‘motivation’ or have a bad day - leaving us feeling disappointed when they don’t work out.

💡 Remember- lots of little steps 🟰 big distances

☀️ The sun has made its appearance in the uk !
This can only mean everyone will be out sorting their garden 🪴 (not me, I’ll stick to sorting people 😅😂)

👉🏽Follow these 4 simple tips to avoid injury this spring

🪴It’s easy to get carried away when the sun comes out (as it’s fairly rare here 😂) but make sure you change patient and get up and walk around / stretch every 45mins or so.

🪴Avoid bending and twisting if possible. Try to face what you are doing square on, it will keep your lower back happier.

🪴Use a kneeling pad if you are gonna be kneeling for a long time - long periods of kneeling can irritate any existing arthritis in the knee or irritate the bursae of the knee and lead to swelling.

🪴Stay hydrated and use SPF ☀️ sun damage is no joke and dehydration can lead to headaches and feeling generally rubbish.

🪴Enjoy getting out in nature and lapping up that vitamin D 😎👌🏼

Should you get any gardening aches and pains - we are of course here to help you get back on track 😃

✨ Price change from April ✨

Hi everyone,

I’ve tried to put this off as long as possible but I need to raise the price of Follow Up visits to keep up with rising costs.

Follow up visits will go from £47 to £49 on April 1st 2025 (awaiting April fools comments. 😅)

Thank you to all our wonderful patients for your support over the years and understanding; we would not exist without you 🙏🏼

👧🏼Did you know kids of all ages can get growing pains? 🧒🏾

As osteopaths, we keep a check on them - particularly during growth spurts.

😣 Often ‘growing pains’ are more common in the legs around the backs of the ankles and front of the knees.

This is because the long bones are growing so quickly, the muscles just need a bit of time to catch up 😅

This can cause a bit of pulling in the muscle attachment and cause some aching to your little (not so little) one 💙

This can also be more common in kids who are quite sporty 🏈

Whilst growing pains are completely normal, especially during big growth spurts - osteopathy can help reduce the aching through soft tissue techniques and stretching the muscles.

You may also notice your little one is a little bit more clumsy, that’s all part of growing - and we can offer exercises to help strengthen their proprioception and prevent injury.

🚩Some growing conditions are a little bit more serious: If we are worried, we will recommend you follow up 3-6 months time or refer you to your GP.

These may include: scoliosis, Osgood-schlatters, severs to name a few.
But we are here to support you and your child along the way 🙌🏾

😩 Young children can experience anxiety too!

Try these simple techniques with your little ones to help them manage times where they may be feeling anxious or nervous.

❤️Remind them they are safe and everything is ok

Children can hold their breath or even take lots of short inhales when they’re feeling stressed.
These exercises help them settle their breathing and give them a focus point ☀️

Osteopaths see people of all ages to help with general muscle tension as well as many other conditions.

👧 Did you know osteopaths treat kids and teens and not just adults and babies ?!

Reasons why your child may benefit from osteopathic treatment:

Release muscle tension and pains that could be caused from:

🐒Growing pains (growth spurts can cause aching especially in the legs as the muscles try to keep up with boney growth)

🐒Playing lots of sports (sporty kids often leave little time to rest and stretch. Treatment can help support healthy recovery and prevent injuries)

🐒 Scoliosis - this may become more apparent in early teen years

🐒Poor posture - either from lots of time on screens 😅 eg playing games with their friends in the Xbox, being on their phones plus being bent over at a school desk most of the day .. could also occur classically as teens adjust to their new height and body developing.

🐒Exam/ essay stress - kids are just like us! Stress shows in their body and they can get achey neck shoulders and tensjon headaches.

If you think your (not so) little one could benefit from treatment - get in touch 😄

🩷We have appointments over half term and on Saturday mornings
