DOMS! Or Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness.

What is it?!

Muscle soreness that occurs usually between 12 – 24 hours after a high intensity work out, a new sport, a new training plan etc. Muscles feel sore to touch, stiffness and overall fatigue, also a nightmare walking up the stairs!!

Why?!
Exercise causes micro tears within the muscle tissue, the body then responds by using its own super power of healing starting with inflammation, this then may lead to soreness.
High intensity, exercise change and eccentric exercise (‘down phase’ or lengthening muscle) e.g. walking down hill.

Who gets it?!

EVERYONE! From athletes to new gym starters to someone who decided to go for a longer walk or learning to ride a horse!

TREATMENT – yes it does get better!

Keep moving!
Sports Massage
Stretching
Warm bath - some people like to use Epsom salts
NUTRITION!
Cold bath
And my personal favourite – swimming!

It’s also worth a mention that yes it can be sore and will maybe last a couple of days but it will get better and the fitter you get the easier it will be and this will happen less!

⭐️🧬Sooo new year, new me….. well all about me 

I am getting round to this whole social media thing and thought I better introduce myself properly!
I’m Kat, Sports Therapist, horse riding, hockey playing, learning to run, cockerpoo mum, who also is halfway through my MSc in sports performance nutrition! Oh and I love !!!!

So I went to Exeter uni did sports and exercise science, then hartpury uni for sports therapy and now ulster uni for nutrition. Im lucky enough to have worked with some pro and international athletes and love my work in clinics.

Helping people feel better whether they are athletes or you just want to be able to make a cup of tea and walk up the stairs, is my goal.

I currently work in in cirencester, in stroud and longlevens in Gloucester.

🩻 HumanTrak – What is the magic?! 🪄

🎥 Captures and provides feedback on how you body is moving through motion tracking via a camera. It collects and analyses the biomechanical data, which allows practitioners to interpret and give objective feedback. It creates real time assessment of the movement patterns, range of movement, stability and balance.

🛟 How can it help?

Having the ability to pin point some of the imbalances can help us, help you in making the most out of movement. Whether that’s to improve your running gait for you 1st or 100th marathon or a park run pb, to a better more even seat riding your horse or bike, or to improve your lifting or ironing out issues which are causing a plateau in your lifting pbs.

🧬 SCIENCE! In research its was concluded that human trak showed a potential non-intrusive dynamic task evaluation tool for upper and lower limb for ROM’s in military screening. Its also been used in studies on female footballers and ACL prevalence for single leg vertical hops! Check out the articles!!
