Happy 1st of February, today is Imbolc a traditional Irish festival that marks the midpoint between winter and spring, it’s a time to reflect on the darkness and look forward to the return of the light. I’m reminded that even in times of darkness there is always glimpses of hope and renewal. Let’s celebrate the light, life, hope and renewal that this season brings! I was so happy to find snowdrops on our walk today, spring is just around the corner. Lots of love 🌷

Day 12! A day to reflect on the past 12 days of creativity, it was cool to put this reel together of the art I created over these past 12 days.

On reflection, all the external stuff can overwhelm me this time year and I get swept away and forget to prioritise myself in doing this art challenge I’ve learned that and it’s helped me not forget my daily art practices and to make sure I give myself that time to just be and quite the noise it’s been brill!

Day 11: Moment of stillness.

Today is keeping it simple, one line or art material not overthinking it just simple ☺️ Stillness doesn’t have to be complex it can simply be closing your eyes taking a few mindful breaths, watching the world go or drawing something simple to connect you to your creativity in a soft and gentle way.

When was the last time you truly felt still?
Maybe spend a moment reflecting on what helps you create moments of quiet in your day.

Day 10: Winter self-care Sunday 🌿

After honouring the Winter Solstice yesterday, the first day of winter is here today is about self nourishing with kindness and creativity.

Journaling prompts for winter self care 🪴
^what does self-care mean to me in this season?
^What are 3 small acts of kindness I can do for myself today?
^What can I let go off to feel lighter as I move into winter?

Creative self care idea 🌱

^ Create a winter nest either in your imagination or in your space at home for comfort and safety maybe it’s your favourite chair or space in your home how can you make it extra cozy just for you? Maybe fairy lights a pillow or blanket or bring in winter things like pine cones, Then use this inspiration to light a candle in your cozy nest curl up with a hot drink or a book ☺️

Mindfulness exercises 🌿

Winter breathe exercise ❄️
^ in your cozy nest spend a few moments breathing I know it sounds simple but trust me here 😅 take these moments to sit quietly and focus on your breath,
On each inhale silently say “ I receive “
On each exhale silently say “I let go”
Let this be a little pause, a rhythm that anchors you into peace and self compassion 🪴

Day 9 of Mindful art : Winter solstice 🕯️

Take time to pause today just as the changing season into winter shows us stillness can be a gift settle into the present finding calm amongst the seasons energy.

Sitting here surrounded by a gentle glow,
Christmas tree lights and candles’ soft warm glow.
On this dark winter solstice morning I breathe in deep and feel your warm presence.

As darkness reigns outside, I find my peaceful nest.
In this solstice stillness, I pause.
As light and dark dances, I’ll find my peace.
Amen.

Mindful Prompt: “As light and dark dances, I’ll find my peace. Write or draw what comes to mind when you think of peace, stillness or the quite beauty of winter ❄️ consider weaving your own poem into your art or journal 🌿

Day 8: Doodles away✍🏼

Doodling is such a fun thing to do I doodle when I’m on the phone or in a waiting room 😅 you don’t need to think about it just let the pen or pencil go where it wants to creating shapes, lines, patterns, doodles you can fill the spaces in or leave them blank or just fill a page of random little doodles there is no right or wrong.

I used to do these drawings a lot as a kid I enjoyed colouring in the shapes and they became little mini worlds.

Day 7: candlelight drawing 🕯️
Drawing by candlelight is such an intimate and calming experience, it teaches you to really slow down it’s the one thing I kinda like about the winter months because I love candlelight and I love creating and writing with the flicker of a candle.

It was good to use my non dominant hand and one continuous line ✍🏼
Grab a candle your sketch book or paper and see what unfolds under candlelight.

Day 6: Playful Creativity 🍃
Let go and create to music! 🎵 Pick a song that inspires you, using your whole body move as freely as you can to create marks on the paper, let the rhythm guide you, pick art materials like charcoal, pastels, crayons, pencil, anything that feels loose and expressive. I call it dancing with my tools 😅

No rules just joyful mark making, this is such a wonderful way to let go of perfection and play, does it look like a child did it? Yes that’s what we want! Don’t forget art is play 🍃✨

Day 4 Mindful art prompt:

Breathing colours 🎨

This art practice connects breathe and creativity it’s simple but very effective 🌬️

Get a piece of paper and your chosen art medium
Get comfortable take a few deep breathes following your breaths maybe placing one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly as you breathe in and out and either begin moving with your breath or move with your inhale and exhale ☺️ and allow your breath and hands to move, visualise calming colours and let your self be drawn to the colours you choose.

You can also observe how the colours you picked make you feel? Calming or energising.
How did the act of breathing and moving make you feel? More calm, grounded, less foggy, joy.

Slow down 🌿 and just be.
