The CWU has confirmed that strike action for Royal Mail staff will take place on 24th & 25th November.

We fully support this action, but it will have an impact on returns for our NHS industrial action ballot.

Make sure you vote as soon as possible.

An update for our members working for the NHS.

An announcement was made on 19th July 2022 to confirm that the Pay Review Body (PRB) has recommended that every NHS pay point should increase by £1,400. This announcement covers all NHS staff groups other than doctors. The PRB have also recommended that staff in Band 6 and 7 should get 4% instead of £1,400, where this is higher. The government has accepted those recommendations.

The increase falls well short of inflation for all staff, currently running above 9% on the CPI measure and even higher on the RPI measure. This means once again the PRB process and the government’s decisions have left NHS staff with another real-terms pay cut. And because the government would not negotiate with us this is not a pay ‘offer’– the government will move to implement it whether or not you want to accept it.

UNISON’s lead committee of elected NHS workers has looked at the pay announcement, and agreed that UNISON opposes the outcome. They have decided that we will now prepare a formal ballot and encourage members to vote in favour of taking industrial action. These preparations will include building up member and public support so that as many of you as possible feel informed and confident about taking part and voting for action in the ballot.

From a branch perspective, we are planning a variety of action, including stalls within our largest NHS workplaces locally, so that we can chat to members about the campaign, and encourage them to update their details and Pledge Yes for the NHS. As stalls get booked in, we will e-mail our members to confirm, so spread the word.

It is important to make sure that your details are up to date. You can update your details online right away here - https://www.unison.org.uk/my-unison/ or by e-mailing the branch on branch@unison-gdhc.org.uk or calling us on 07395 930745.

It is not too late for new members to join, and have a say in the ballot. Remember, that as an existing member, you will get £10 for every member that you recommend to our branch. Just contact the branch directly to let us know the name of the person you have recommend, and we will do the rest.

Take the first step toward industrial action, help spread the word https://www.nhspay.org/
