This small scale study is concerning. Hopefully, there will be a larger scale study in a variety of locations in the UK and rest of world.

A research team from Scotland and Belgium has found that unborn babies have air pollution particles in their developing lungs and other vital organs as early as the first trimester of pregnancy.

So useful to remember that wherever there is trauma and pain there is health too.

One of my favourite images from Pain Is Really Strange.

Brains, bodies and environment interact to help us act effectively in the world. The unfathomable connections between neurons are always humming with activity. They keep making predictions. Our neural networks are always seeking familiar patterns, attuned to signs of advantage or disadvantage, coloured by how much energy it will take to respond.

Freedom is the ability to not get stuck in catastrophic predictions. Can we uncouple the present moment from overwhelming past experiences and not get stuck in defence cascades of ‘fight-or-flight’ or ‘freeze’? Can we not do what we have always done, and break free of fixed, limiting habits?

This brings up many interesting curiosities.

This brings up many interesting curiosities.

When faced with a predator or sudden danger, the heart rate goes up, breathing becomes more rapid, and fuel in the form of glucose is pumped throughout the body to prepare an animal to fight or flee.

Such fun to watch.

We need to find ways to support healing at all stages of life so that through iteration, we as a world community, reduce the effects of early life trauma, supporting us all to be more of who we really are.

Unaddressed childhood trauma changes how we respond to the world and when triggered, we make choices that sometimes have devastating consequences including domestic…

Good to listen to Gabor Mate about Authenticity versus Attachment and how we survive.

In our need to survive we may move away from our authentic self. Our survival patterns encode within our system in a way that does not include the time(s) of happening. When it happens today, it is out of context. Working with survival patterns in a way that is supportive and safe can help to place the feelings and sensation in their true time slot. We can then start to differentiate our past from today and move more towards our authentic self.

This apparently was known of a couple of years ago. I wonder where the research is now, especially with the development of quantum science.

Back in 2017, neuroscientists used a classic branch of maths in a totally new way to peer into the structure of our brains.

Some more interesting thoughts from Gabor Maté. Interesting about the use of stress hormones and asthma.

Some more interesting thoughts from Gabor Maté. Interesting about the use of stress hormones and asthma.

In his opening keynote, Canadian physician Gabor Maté called on therapists to expand their frame of reference and recognize how their job is too often a kind of mopping up after the cruelties and injustices of the larger systems that shape our lives.
