Exciting news! Shaleeza Hasham, Commercial Director at CHD Living and Founder & CEO of Adopt A Grandparent, has been shortlisted for Businesswoman of the Year at the Dynamic Awards 2026, one of the South East’s most recognised celebrations of female achievement in business.

Shaleeza is a second generation leader who has helped drive CHD Living forward with a clear, values led approach, combining commercial strength with a relentless focus on quality, dignity and outcomes for the people we support. From shaping major developments that expand care in the community, to championing innovation that improves safety and wellbeing, she leads with purpose and high standards. This shortlist is a brilliant recognition of the impact Shaleeza has made, and the kind of leadership social care needs more of.

Shaleeza is also the Founder & CEO of Adopt a Grandparent, which she launched in 2019 to tackle loneliness in care homes through meaningful, safeguarded intergenerational friendships. Shaleeza’s efforts highlight the belief that kindness can be organised, scaled, and protected, and that social impact deserves the same ambition as any business goal.

Congratulations, Shaleeza, and thank you to every resident, care home, volunteer, supporter, and colleague who has helped build these achievements.

We wish all the finalists the very best of luck at the award ceremony this week!

Today is both Red Nose Day and International Day of Happiness - a perfect reminder that happiness isn’t something you stumble into. It’s something people choose to create.

Not the loud, once-in-a-while kind. The everyday kind.

It’s being greeted by name, like you matter.
It’s the cup of tea made properly, without you needing to explain yourself.
It’s someone spotting the wobble in your mood and quietly pulling up a chair.
It’s laughter echoing down the corridor, sometimes unexpected, but always welcome.
It’s a favourite song doing what medicine sometimes can’t, bringing someone back to themselves.
It’s the dignity of being listened to, not rushed.
It’s progress measured in inches, and treated like it counts, because it does.

Today, we’re celebrating both the power of happiness and the joy of making a difference. Across CHD Living, our teams and residents are embracing Red Nose Day with smiles, laughter and moments of fun - and will be tuning in together for tonight’s show, sharing in the spirit of something bigger.

At CHD Living, we call it Creating Happiness Daily because happiness in care is never accidental. It’s a thousand small decisions made with care, attention and kindness, again and again, across our care homes, care at home, rehabilitation and complex care services.

A special mention to Brownscombe and Abbey Chase Care Home, where today’s photos capture exactly what this day is all about.

So today, if you’re looking for happiness, don’t look for perfection. Look for the moments made gently, on purpose. And if you can, be one of those moments for someone else ❤️

Recovery rarely follows a straight line. It is often uncertain, emotional, and deeply personal. Behind every rehabilitation journey is a family navigating change, hope, and the need for the right support at the right time.

We are continually reminded why specialist rehabilitation matters through the experiences shared by those closest to the people we support.

“Mum came to Bagshot Park for two weeks of rehabilitation following major emergency surgery. The team were able to admit her at very short notice and provided an excellent service to her, my father and I. The facility is excellent, with modern, clean rooms and onsite physiotherapy. The whole team were incredibly supportive and answered every question I had during her stay. A huge thank you to all the team.”

Stories like this reflect what thoughtful, responsive rehabilitation can mean during critical moments of recovery.

Equally powerful are the longer term outcomes families witness over time.

“I can speak very highly of the service and quality of care offered at Kingston Rehabilitation Centre. My mother suffered a serious stroke and is now restricted to a wheelchair, but the physiotherapy team saw that as no barrier. They supported her with standing exercises, exceeding what we thought possible. Our thanks to the entire rehab team at Kingston. I can also recommend the high quality speech and language therapy offered by the centre.”

Rehabilitation is never just about clinical input. It is about restoring confidence, rebuilding independence, and supporting people to achieve outcomes that genuinely improve quality of life.

There are lots of ways to spot a mum, even with your eyes closed.

It’s the coat pulled tighter around your shoulders. The “have you eaten?” asked at exactly the right moment. The way she can find what you’ve lost in seconds. The soft telling off that somehow still feels like love. The instinct to make everything alright, even when she’s tired.

At CHD Living, we see those details every day. We also see the other side of the story, when a mum needs more support than she used to, and roles begin to shift. When a daughter becomes the organiser. When a son becomes the steady one. When families are trying to do the right thing while holding onto what feels familiar.

Mother's Day isn’t about doing it perfectly. It’s about showing up, in whatever way you can. A visit. A call. A hand held for a little longer. A story retold. A cup of tea made just how she likes it.

These photos capture just some of the love, laughter, and quiet togetherness shared across our homes on Mothering Sunday.

To all mums, and to everyone missing one, our thoughts are with you this week.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, a chance to recognise that brain injury can change life in an instant, and that recovery is rarely simple, quick, or linear.

For many people, the impact is not just physical. It can affect memory, concentration, communication, mood, fatigue and confidence. Families often describe it as learning a new way of living, together.

At CHD Living, we support people living with brain injury through specialist rehabilitation, complex care and care at home. Our focus is on what matters most to each person: rebuilding independence where possible, improving function and mobility, supporting cognition and wellbeing, and helping people feel safe, understood and hopeful as they take the next steps.

This month, we’re standing with everyone living with brain injury, and the families, clinicians and carers who support them. Progress can be measured in small wins, and those wins matter.

International Women’s Day at Surrey Hills Dementia Nursing Home is a reminder that wisdom doesn’t always arrive as a speech. Sometimes it arrives as a life quietly, bravely lived.

Eva Fox Argroves is 93 and proudest of a risk she took with her husband in Majorca, opening a bar called Texas Jacks. Her advice is clear: don’t ignore your problems. Speak about them. Work through them. Keep something meaningful in your life and stay open minded.

Ruth Badder is also 93 and has been at Surrey Hills for five years. She raised five children and is most proud of her family and the closeness they still share. Ruth’s strength is grounded in faith, loyalty, and values like honesty, respect and empathy, even when life is challenging.

We’re also celebrating the women who shape our team. Beverly, our Deputy Manager, speaks about her friend Laura, a woman of strength and humour who has faced deep loss and carried on. Tania, our Wellbeing Coordinator, celebrates her sister Claire and their mum Sybil, whose kindness, determination and creativity have shaped their lives.

Today we’re celebrating women who take chances, hold onto their values, and lift others as they go.

International Women’s Day, through the lens of Whitegates Nursing Home, comes with the kind of advice you only earn by living it.

“Believe in yourself, even in a foreign land.” “It gets better.” “If you look good, you’ll feel good.” “Ask for help if you need it.”

And sometimes, the simplest truth of all: “I’m happy just being here.”

At CHD Living, we’re proud to share these words from the women, including residents Anneliese (100), Joan (101) and Eileen (101), whose stories span more than a century of love, work, family, change and resilience.

Today isn’t about perfect soundbites. It’s about real wisdom, passed down in plain language. The kind that reminds you strength can look like perseverance, independence, humour, and knowing what matters.

Happy International Women’s Day from all of us at CHD Living, with gratitude to the women who shape our homes, our teams, and our lives.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating a woman who has quietly built a whole career on care, and turned it into leadership.

Maria Krystyanc, Manager at Abbey Chase Nursing Home in Chertsey, has just marked 20 years of service. She started in her early twenties and worked her way through roles from housekeeping to care, from training to management, gaining the kind of experience you can’t teach in a classroom.

Under Maria’s leadership, Abbey Chase has strengthened standards, modernised how care is planned and recorded, and built a more consistent team so residents and families see familiar faces and feel truly supported. But ask anyone what defines Maria and you won’t just hear about systems and progress. You’ll hear about the moments that matter. The cup of coffee and a chat when someone is anxious. The reassurance to a family member. The pride when a colleague grows in confidence. The kindness shown when life is at its hardest.

As Tracy Lazell, Regional Manager at CHD Living, says, Maria leads with “high standards and real compassion”, and she gives “100% of herself” every day.

Thank you, Maria, for 20 years of dedication, and for showing what women’s leadership in social care looks like in practice.

A few of our homes celebrated St David’s Day on Sunday and throughout the week! 🌼

Residents and teams at Abbey Chase Nursing Home, St Catherine’s Manor, Surrey Hills Dementia Centre and Whitegates Centre joined in the celebrations by making delicious Welsh cakes, creating bright daffodil walls to decorate the homes, and enjoying some classic Welsh music like Calon Lân.

A lovely way to celebrate Welsh culture and the arrival of spring together.

Pressure on specialist hospital services, particularly neuro rehabilitation and tracheostomy or ventilator support, continues to create significant challenges across the health and care system. Delays in accessing appropriate beds can have a very real impact on individuals, families, and clinical teams alike.

What is often less visible, however, is the vital role that community based rehabilitation and complex care services play in supporting recovery, independence, and long term wellbeing. With the right clinical oversight, governance, and multidisciplinary expertise, many individuals do not require extended hospital stays to achieve positive outcomes.

Specialist rehabilitation and complex care delivered in community settings, or within a person’s own home, can frequently provide a more appropriate environment, supporting comfort, continuity, and quality of life. There is also increasing recognition that well-structured community pathways are not simply alternatives to hospital care, but an essential component of a sustainable and responsive system. Models that combine therapy, nursing, and specialist clinical support outside of acute settings can deliver strong outcomes while helping to relieve pressure on highly constrained NHS resources.

That is where providers such as CHD Living can play an important role. Through specialist rehabilitation services, complex care expertise, and care at home pathways, CHD Living supports individuals with a wide range of needs, including neuro rehabilitation, tracheostomy care, ventilator support, and long term complex conditions. For individuals, families, and professionals exploring appropriate care options, timely access to specialist, person centred support can make a meaningful difference to both recovery and overall wellbeing.

Over the past week, across CHD Living, we’ve been celebrating Chinese New Year - a time of joy, reflection, and new beginnings - as we welcomed the arrival of the Year of the Horse.

The Horse symbolises energy, optimism, and spirit. It is associated with warmth, enthusiasm, and a forward looking mindset, qualities that resonate strongly with the vibrant communities within our homes. The year ahead is traditionally seen as one of movement, positivity, and fresh opportunities, making it a meaningful moment to pause and look ahead with hope.

Celebrations such as Chinese New Year hold a special place in care settings. They offer moments of shared experience, cultural appreciation, and simple enjoyment. Whether through food, conversation, music, or reminiscence, these occasions bring people together and create a sense of occasion that brightens everyday life.

In Chinese tradition, red is believed to bring luck, protection, and prosperity. It is a colour of happiness and good fortune, and a lovely reminder of the positive intentions many carry into the new year.

From everyone at CHD Living, we wish all those celebrating a happy, healthy, and peaceful New Year. May the Year of the Horse bring happiness, strength, and many moments of joy.
