What’s on the menu at the Robertson monthly cooking club?

Our cooking continues to be a particularly favourite activity with several of our residents, and they have been busy baking some delicious treats during their monthly meets. 👩🏻‍🍳

Our cooking club members love to have a good chat while they measure and mix ingredients. We are so impressed with the fantastic cakes and bakes they create, which look and taste amazing. 🍰

For those residents who have always greatly enjoyed baking and cooking, having the opportunity to continue these hobbies through our club has meant a great deal to them. We are always happy to see our residents enjoying spending time doing their favourite hobbies, and our staff are happy to lend their support.

At Beritaz Care, we have seen firsthand the special moments that happen when generations come together and the wonderful bonds that are formed. Through various activities, our residents have had the opportunity to get to know people of all ages, sharing conversations and discovering the things they have in common. This week is Global Intergenerational Week, a fantastic campaign that shines a light on the importance of connecting people of all ages to encourage shared experiences and intergenerational friendships. 💕

Many of our homes have close relationships with local schools, which means residents enjoy visits from school pupils or trips to nurseries to visit the children there. We have also been able to offer work experience opportunities for secondary school pupils and college students who want to gain experience of life in a care home. The time our residents have spent with these pupils has been a wonderful experience for everyone involved. The joy and enthusiasm the young people display is infectious, and our residents light up around them. It has also been lovely to see the children enjoy learning from our residents, listening to their stories and asking them questions about their lives.

We have been delighted to welcome several young volunteers to our homes. They have been helping residents to get involved with activities, or sometimes simply sitting with them to have a chat. Some residents have even discovered shared passions with volunteers, including one pair who spent time playing the piano together at Robertson Nursing Home. Being able to enjoy a hobby with someone who shares that passion has been truly wonderful for them both.

Residents of Springkell House Care Home have had the chance to take part in the ‘adopt a grandparent’ initiative, bringing together volunteers from all over the world with the elderly community to build new relationships. One of our residents has enjoyed several video calls with a young volunteer, where they have had a lovely time chatting about all sorts of things and sharing stories about their lives. This has been a really valuable experience for the residents, and it is lovely to know our residents can provide companionship for young people who are missing that familial bond from a grandparent.

Throughout all these activities, it has been wonderful to witness the bonds develop between the residents and these young people and how much they all gain from these experiences. The interactions they share are heartwarming to see and demonstrate the importance of intergenerational connections. There are so many things that link these generations, and so much they have learned from each other; the time spent with the young people has meant a great deal to our residents.

Our wonderful Robertson band, Catch 22, are back delighting our residents with their musical talents. 🎶🎸
Catch 22 is a band comprised of a Robertson resident and staff member, who have a shared passion for music and regularly get together to play some of their favourite songs.

At Robertson Nursing Home, we love supporting our residents to enjoy their lifelong hobbies, as well as helping them to find some new ones. Discovering that our residents and staff members share a hobby and can enjoy it together is a very special thing. We know how important music is for this resident and how much he enjoys being part of Catch 22, nearly as much as we all enjoy hearing them play. 😊

We spent a lovely Easter weekend with the residents of Robertson Nursing Home, taking part in some fun Easter activities and, of course, enjoying a chocolate egg or two. 🐣🌷🐰

Our residents got creative with some fun Easter-themed arts and crafts, including making their own beautiful Easter bonnets, which they proudly wore throughout our Easter celebrations. 👒

After tucking into their delicious Easter lunch made by our wonderful chefs, in our Easter-decorated dining room, the residents cracked open their chocolate eggs for a perfect Easter afternoon treat. 🍫

The residents enjoyed their Easter celebration, and it was also lovely to welcome residents’ family and friends for visits over the bank holiday weekend. We hope you all had a great Easter weekend.

We’re starting to see the first signs of spring around the home, and we are all very much looking forward to the sunny days and warmer weather. ☀️🪻🌷🐝

As residents enjoy their walks around the garden and areas surrounding the home, they have been delighted to spot the first spring blooms gradually appearing. We can’t wait to see our flower beds filled with colour and greenery, and all the beautiful wildflowers that pop up around the home. Residents have been admiring the first flowers to bloom and enjoyed identifying their favourite flowers.

We are looking forward to spending more time outdoors with the residents this spring and summer, enjoying the fresh air, sunshine, and the delights of nature on our doorstep.

At Beritaz Care, we understand that nothing benefits the mind and body quite like a good night’s sleep. 🛌😴 Quality sleep plays an important part in the health and wellness of the residents within our homes.

Today is World Sleep Day, an event aimed at raising awareness of the importance of sleep health. The theme of World Sleep Day 2026 is ‘Sleep well, live better’, encouraging everyone to take steps to prioritise their sleep routine to benefit their overall health.

On World Sleep Day, we are sharing how we prioritise sleep health as part of our care service, and why good sleep matters for our residents. Sleep health is a key factor in the holistic approach to care we take within our homes. Residents’ sleep quality, preferences, and any negative sleep factors are all included in the personalised care plans developed for each individual. The staff within our homes do everything they can to support sleep health, from helping residents to establish good sleep routines that work for them to making sure the home environment is conducive to a good night’s sleep.

Find out more about how we support sleep health and prioritise quality rest within our homes to make sure our residents are feeling their best and maintaining the health of their minds and bodies: https://beritazcare.co.uk/news/article/why-good-sleep-matters

Recently, we took a visit to explore a lovely local business just a short journey from Robertson Nursing Home. 🚐 ☕️ 🧁 Our residents were delighted to take a trip out to The Pavilion by Howling Owl in Godalming to enjoy some refreshments.

The residents enjoyed a cup of tea and some delicious cakes while having a good chat and admiring the décor in the wonderful community café. It is always lovely to make the most of the amenities and landmarks in our local area, as well as supporting a brilliant local business.

Our residents enjoy these trips out to explore Godalming and nearby areas, and we are looking forward to going on more adventures with the residents during spring and summer.
