🚨 Could you recognise a dangerously high blood pressure reading? Most people can't.

🩺 HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE: THE "SILENT" HEALTH RISK MANY PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THEY HAVE

Many people with high blood pressure feel completely well.

In fact, hypertension often causes no symptoms at all until it has already started increasing the risk of:

High blood pressure often causes no symptoms, but over time it can increase the risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease and other health problems.

Most GP practices will want to see a week's worth of home readings before deciding whether any further assessment, monitoring or treatment is needed.

🤧 Hay fever sufferers — this weekend may be rough locally.

Current forecasts suggest HIGH grass pollen levels across Stamford, Peterborough, Huntingdon and Cambridge this weekend, especially during warm, dry and breezy conditions.

A few things many people DON’T realise:

🌾 Pollen counts are often highest between 5am–10am and again in the evening
🚿 Showering and changing clothes after being outside can make a big difference
🕶️ Sunglasses can help reduce pollen irritation to the eyes
🏠 Keeping windows closed early morning may help indoors
🚗 Car cabin pollen filters are often forgotten — but can massively affect symptoms

💊 Over-the-counter antihistamines such as Cetirizine or Loratadine help many people, especially if started BEFORE symptoms become severe.

Other things people often find helpful:
✅ Saline nasal rinses/sprays
✅ Drying clothes indoors on high pollen days
✅ Applying a small amount of petroleum jelly around the nostrils to trap pollen
✅ Avoiding mowing grass where possible

⚠️ If symptoms are severe, persistent, affecting sleep, causing wheeze/asthma flare-ups or over-the-counter medication is not helping, stronger prescription-only treatment may sometimes be needed.

☀️ HEATWAVE WARNING — CAMBRIDGESHIRE COULD REACH 33°C TODAY ☀️

According to the BBC, temperatures like those forecast today have not been seen in May since 1944.

This is not just “nice weather.”
Even a few extra degrees can rapidly become dangerous — especially in the UK where many homes trap heat and often lack air conditioning.

🚗 TOP TIP:
While many UK homes do not have air conditioning, most people do have access to a car with air conditioning. If somebody is becoming overheated and you cannot cool them effectively indoors, sitting safely in an air-conditioned vehicle for a short period may help lower body temperature while you continue cooling measures and seek medical advice if needed.

🚨 HEAT EXHAUSTION vs HEAT STROKE — WHY PEOPLE GET THEM CONFUSED

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are both caused by the body overheating, but they are NOT the same thing.

🟠 HEAT EXHAUSTION IS SERIOUS
Symptoms often improve with rapid cooling, fluids and rest — but if ignored, heat exhaustion can progress into heat stroke.

🔴 HEAT STROKE IS A LIFE-THREATENING MEDICAL EMERGENCY THAT REQUIRES URGENT HOSPITAL TREATMENT
Heat stroke can rapidly lead to organ failure, unconsciousness and death if emergency treatment is delayed.

🟠 SIGNS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION

Symptoms can include:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or faintness
• Headache
• Feeling sick or vomiting
• Muscle cramps
• Weakness or tiredness

• Intense thirst

✅ WHAT TO DO:
• Move the person somewhere cool
• Encourage cool fluids/water
• Loosen or remove excess clothing

☀️ Sunny and 30°C today… which means a lot more skin is on show.

Hot weather is also a good reminder to quickly check moles and skin changes on yourself and loved ones.

Remember the ABCDE warning signs:

🔹 A – Asymmetry
🔹 B – Border irregularity
🔹 C – Colour changes
🔹 D – Diameter increasing
🔹 E – Evolving or changing over time

If a mole looks unusual, changes, bleeds, crusts, becomes itchy, or simply doesn’t seem right — it’s worth getting checked.
