20/08/2024

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Feet First Podiatry will cease trading as of 13th September 2024. Any appointments scheduled before this date will still be honoured, but those set for afterwards will unfortunately be cancelled. I will do my best to fit you in before then if you need to be seen.
I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank each and every one of you for supporting me over the past eight years. Your trust and loyalty have helped make my small business the success it is today. However, in recent months, I've found that the time and effort needed to maintain this success, attract new patients, and retain existing ones has begun to take too much of my personal time.
Recently, an unexpected opportunity arose, and I decided to take a chance. I'm pleased to share that I will be joining the NHS as a podiatrist. I hope this new role will allow me to rebalance my work and home life and spend more time with my family.
Once again, thank you so much for the past eight years, whether I've treated you once or many times. Without your support, I wouldn't have achieved what I have. I will miss Feet First Podiatry deeply and am sad to close this chapter of my life, but I'm excited to move on to the next one.
Warm regards,
Laura

SEEKING HELP

A very important aspect of foot health is seeking help from the correct person as soon as a problem arises.

If you have any worries, pains or questions about anything related to your legs or feet, your podiatrist will be able to assess you and point you in the right direction for treatment if they are unable to provide that treatment themselves.

Ignoring a problem is never a sensible treatment plan and can lead to more severe, long term problems. If in doubt, see your podiatrist!

To continue with Foot Health Month and how to maintain healthy feet, the third instalment is..............

SKIN CARE

Most of us are guilty of ignoring our feet, covering them in socks and shoes and forgetting about them until a problem arises. Our heels tend to be one of the most neglected parts of our bodies and once sandal weather arrives, we panic and believe a couple of applications of cream should be enough to correct months of neglect.

In truth, we all should be applying cream to our feet at least 3 times a week but daily if they are particularly dry, you are on them a lot or wear open backed shoes most of the time.

Cream should be applied to the tops and bottoms of the feet but not between the toes to prevent fungal infections. Ideally a urea-based cream should be used but any moisturiser you use on the rest of your body will do, it’s applying it that’s the main thing.

NAIL CARE

Problems can occur with toenails when they are incorrectly cut or left to grow too long.
Cutting nails too short can cause bleeding and pain short term.

However, allowing nails to grow too long can cause them to bang on our footwear which can result in bruising under the nail, cause the nail to lift and become detached from the nail bed and even cause corns to form under or down the sides of the nail.

All these issues can be very painful and require a podiatrist to correct the issue and advise on nail care techniques to prevent long term problems such as ingrowing toenails or the loss of the toenail.

As April hosts Foot Health Week from Monday 22nd - Sunday 28th, I thought I would share with you a few simple ways to keep your feet as healthy as possible all year round.

The first installment for this series is.........

FOOTWEAR

An often-overlooked aspect of foot care but one that can have the most impact on foot health. Footwear needs to be fit for purpose and suited to the activity you are undertaking, e.g. trainers for the gym, walking boots for hiking, etc.

Shoes should be rotated and ideally changed daily so you are not wearing damp footwear (that can promote Athlete’s foot) or exposing your feet to undue stresses (heels can crack if we wear open-backed shoes all the time or corns can form if there’s not enough room for the toes).

Your podiatrist can assess your feet and advise on the type and style of shoe that is best suited for you. This can generally solve current problems and prevent further issues from developing in the long term.

Who is Feet First Podiatry?

Hello! I'm Laura, the Podiatrist and founder of Feet First Podiatry. I've never introduced myself as far as my background and how my business came to be so here goes!

After studying for a teaching degree and unfortunately not obtaining a teaching post afterwards, I found myself employed in a busy GP practice as a receptionist and latterly Office Manager. It was through this employment that I got to understand what Podiatry is and it piqued my interest as an interesting and potentially very rewarding job.

I'm not best suited to an office environment and jumped at the opportunity to return to university to study Podiatry, gaining my degree from Salford University in 2012.

I went on to work for the NHS for a couple of years but was working privately at the weekend. This came in handy when I left the NHS and had my son in 2016.

In 2018, I decided to take the plunge and work fully self-employed and Feet First Podiatry was born 😁

Based in Golborne, I am incredibly fortunate to have an ever expanding, lovely bunch of patients who I treat on a regular basis or once or twice a year depending on what suits them.

I encourage everyone to see a Podiatrist at least once a year to give their feet a once over and ensure their foot heath is the best it can be and I look forward to welcoming you into my clinic too!

You can contact me on 07729491706 or via laura@feetfirst-podiatry.co.uk to book your appointment.

What is podiatry?

Podiatrists are foot specialists. We are trained to assess, diagnose and treat foot and lower limb problems without the need for a GP referral.

There is no difference between the terms ‘Podiatrist’ and ‘Chiropodist’, podiatry is simply the more modern name. To receive the best treatment for your feet please ensure your podiatrist is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and The College of Podiatry (CoP). This way, you can feel safe in the knowledge your podiatrist has the professional knowledge and skills to treat your condition and work to the high standards set by HCPC.
